Open throughout the April 30 – May 1 holiday this year, the exhibition “From the historic Dien Bien Phu victory to the great victory of spring 1975” at the Provincial Museum is an interesting destination for those who are passionate about culture and history, wishing to have a deeper understanding of the historical milestones of their homeland and nation. During the first days of the holiday, hundreds of tourists, especially young people, took the time to visit.

Dien Bien soldier Hoang Cong Cung talks with students during a tour of the exhibition at the provincial museum.

Visiting the exhibition at the Provincial Museum, we had the opportunity to meet and talk with veterans who had experienced fire and bombs.

70 years have passed, but Dien Bien soldier Hoang Cong Cung, now 92 years old, still cannot forget the 56 days and nights of "digging mountains, sleeping in tunnels, enduring heavy rain, rice balls, blood mixed with mud" in the Dien Bien Phu campaign. He was one of the intelligent and brave soldiers who contributed to the historic victory of the nation. This year, he decided to donate his battlefield relics to the Provincial Museum with the hope that they will be valuable documents for today's and future generations to better understand the history of their homeland and country. The relics include: The Third Class Soldier Medal that Mr. Cung was awarded right at the Dien Bien battlefield with the signature of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the certificate of President Ho Chi Minh's award of the Dien Bien Phu Soldier Badge. In addition, there is also an identity card of Regiment 36, Division 308 issued in 1955 and various certificates of commemorative medals and medals.

Directly taking Dien Bien soldier Hoang Cong Cung to visit the exhibition at the Provincial Museum, Mr. Hoang Trung Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Veterans Association of Dong Xa Commune (Dong Hung) was extremely moved: I am a soldier who directly participated in the battle on the Cambodian front, directly fought to protect the Fatherland, but now coming to the Provincial Museum with Uncle Cung, I still cannot help but be moved when I see with my own eyes the carefully preserved relics. Although they are very old items, to me, it is the precious heart of the veterans and their families who decided to donate them to the museum. We always encourage and motivate our members to donate battlefield artifacts to the museum so that future generations can see and understand how much blood and bones are sacrificed to protect the Fatherland. Listening to Uncle Cung's sharing with the students about the artifacts donated to the museum, not only the children but I myself was also extremely moved, appreciating him and the Dien Bien soldiers who volunteered to go to the battlefield.

Visiting the thematic exhibition and listening directly to Dien Bien soldier Hoang Cong Cung talk about the arduous war years, sharing about the piece of cloth that saved his life, his exploits on the battlefield..., the 5th grade students of Le Hong Phong Primary School (Thai Binh city) could not hide their emotions.

Le Kieu Em, Le Hong Phong Primary School said: I have visited the exhibition at the Provincial Museum many times. I find this place very suitable for me to learn more about history. Coming here today, we were told about the sacrifices in the war, we understand how difficult the war was and understand how much effort they put in. I was able to see the battlefield relics, which are all historical marks. I feel very moved because our ancestors fought steadfastly to protect the Fatherland, so that our generation can live in peace like today.

Provincial Museum staff introduced to visiting students the exhibition of documents, artifacts and images here.

The thematic exhibition "From the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu to the great victory of spring 1975" includes more than 200 documents, images, and artifacts arranged in 3 parts: The development of the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign, Thai Binh sharing the fire with the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, and Thai Binh with the great victory of spring 1975.

Mr. Do Quoc Tuan, Director of the Provincial Museum shared: In part I of the exhibition, visitors come to 90 documentary images, artifacts, excerpts, and maps introducing the plan of the French army when occupying and building the Dien Bien Phu stronghold, and at the same time understand the policies, strategic decisions, and brilliant tactics of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command. Through the documents, artifacts, and images, each viewer understands more about the developments, significance, stature, and influence of the Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954, specifically the heroic battles, the heroic and indomitable fighting examples, and the great contributions of the Vietnam People's Army. In part II, there are 63 images, documents, and artifacts reflecting the contributions of human resources and the Party Committee and people of Thai Binh in the Dien Bien Phu campaign; The coordination and cooperation of the Thai Binh army and people, fighting to wear down the enemy's strength, contributing to the common victory on the great battlefield of Dien Bien Phu. Part III of the exhibition with the theme "Thai Binh with the great victory of spring 1975" has 66 typical images, documents and artifacts reflecting the contributions of human and material resources of the Party Committee and the people of Thai Binh to the resistance war against the US to save the country, including many children of Thai Binh who have recorded in history brilliant milestones contributing to the common victory of the nation, liberating the South, and unifying the country.

Bicycles used during the resistance war are recreated at the exhibition.

Beloved Uncle Ho once said, “Our people must know our history / To understand the origin of our country Vietnam”, showing that studying and understanding national history is extremely important, especially for the future generations of the country. With the thematic exhibition “From the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu to the great victory of spring 1975” taking place from April 26 to May 10, the Provincial Museum is a cultural destination that helps the younger generation get closer to the history of the country and the land and people of Thai Binh.
