Vietnam's rice exports in the first quarter reached 1.4 billion USD

On the morning of April 26, in Can Tho, the Ministry of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize a conference to evaluate rice export results in 2023, the first quarter of 2024 and discuss rice export orientation in the coming time.

According to the General Department of Customs, in 2023, Vietnam exported 8.1 million tons of rice worth 4.67 billion USD, up 14.4% in volume and 35.3% in value over the same period in 2022. The structure of exported rice varieties is in the right direction, increasing the value of rice grains with varieties such as: fragrant rice, sticky rice, high-quality white rice...

Besides traditional and key export markets that continue to be maintained such as: Philippines, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Ivory Coast, Hong Kong (China), some market areas recorded good growth such as the European Union.

In managing rice exports, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has implemented many solutions to inspect and monitor the production, circulation and consumption of rice in localities and maintain the minimum circulating reserve level of rice exporters.

In addition, the Ministry also has solutions to ensure supply, stabilize domestic food prices and facilitate and limit risks for rice export business activities in each stage of the year; establish a channel to support rice market information...

In 2024, the global rice trade market will still face challenges, such as a decrease in global rice supply. However, Vietnam's rice exports in the first quarter of 2024 will reach nearly 2.2 million tons, worth 1.4 billion USD, up 17.8% in volume and 45.6% in value over the same period in 2023.

To effectively implement the goals and principles of rice export business management, the Ministry of Industry and Trade continues to promote market development, trade promotion, and promote the circulation and consumption of rice products in the new situation.

At the same time, ensure the consumption of rice and paddy at prices beneficial to farmers; maintain the minimum circulating reserve level according to regulations; balance export and domestic consumption, contribute to stabilizing domestic rice and paddy prices and facilitate trade, ensure effective export and enhance the competitiveness and value of Vietnamese rice products in the world food market.

At the conference, delegates representing ministries, sectors, localities, associations, and rice export traders discussed, reviewed, and assessed the impact of climate change on production activities, rice output, and commodity rice to serve domestic demand until the end of the year, as well as assessed market demand, signals on policy movements, and information from major rice import and export markets in the world.
