Recently, Chosun Ilbo (Korea) continued to update new developments related to the case of Byun Ah Yeong - a famous Korean female streamer who died of unknown causes in Cambodia.
Two Chinese suspects in Byun Ah Yeong's death could face serious penalties
Accordingly, the Korean Ministry of Justice is coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request the extradition of suspects from Cambodia for prosecution in Korea.
Specifically, Article 6 of the country's Criminal Law stipulates: The Criminal Law applies to foreigners who commit crimes against Korean citizens outside the territory of the Republic of Korea.
The pursuit of justice in this case shows a clear commitment by the South Korean government to protecting its citizens and properly handling crimes, Chosun Ilbo said.
The extradition of the suspects, if granted, would pave the way for a trial in South Korea to seek justice for Ah Yeong.
Currently, the two suspects, a Chinese couple, Lai Wenshao (male, 30 years old) and Cai Huijuan (female, 39 years old), have been proposed by Cambodian prosecutors to be prosecuted on two charges of torture and murder.
The couple were arrested after police identified them through fingerprints on a blanket wrapped around the victim.
Specific details regarding the torture allegations were not disclosed by police. However, Koreaboo reports that if convicted, the suspect could face life in prison.
Ah Yeong's tragic death has shocked public opinion in recent days.
Earlier on June 11, media reported that a South Korean woman in her 30s was found dead in Cambodia on June 6. Her body was discovered by locals wrapped in a blanket and dumped in a pond in a village near Phnom Penh.
According to Cambodian media, the girl arrived in the Southeast Asian country on June 2. She is believed to have died on her second day in the country after being injected with drugs at a local hospital.
The Rasmei Kampuchea (Cambodia) newspaper reported that the two suspects admitted to dumping the body but denied killing the Korean girl.
The suspect said that the girl had come to their clinic for an IV and serum injection on June 4. She then suddenly had a seizure and stopped breathing. After her death, the suspect and his wife used their own car to transport the victim’s body to Kandal province to dispose of it.
According to the Korea Herald, although the victim's identity has not been revealed by authorities, based on the blurred Instagram account photo in the news, netizens believe that the unfortunate victim is streamer Byun Ah Yeong.
Byun Ah Yeong, born in 1990, is a BJ loved by Afreeca TV viewers. She is famous for her food mukbang videos. Her social media account has more than 250,000 followers.
