After checking and reviewing the bridge system on provincial roads as requested by the Vietnam Road Administration, the Department of Transport issued report No. 2909/SGTVT-QLBT dated September 20 on ensuring traffic safety at weak bridge locations on provincial roads to the Provincial People's Committee.
Authorities will place warning signs and restrict vehicles at Trung Ha Bridge from the end of 2023.
The current provincial road system has 104 bridges, of which 18 are weak (17 bridges are limiting the total vehicle weight to 13 tons and Luong Nha DT.317 bridge limits the total vehicle weight to 10 tons); most of these bridges were built a long time ago, have low operating load, are not in sync with the road load according to current standards, although the load has been limited for many years, they have not been repaired or increased operating load.
On the other hand, the increasing density of vehicles and the large vehicle loads increase the rate of damage, affecting the main load-bearing structures, leading to a high potential risk of traffic insecurity.
To ensure traffic safety, the Department of Transport requests the Provincial People's Committee to consider and promptly allocate resources to approve the Investment Policy for the project: Renovation and upgrading of Tu Cuong bridge (DT.315), Thia bridge (DT.315B), Giap Lai bridge (DT.316), Dinh bridge (DT.320D), Ke bridge (DT.323G).
Regarding the task of organizing the implementation of bridge safety inspection and assessment on the provincial road system, due to urgent requirements, the Department of Transport proposes that the Provincial People's Committee balance and allocate resources in 2024 for immediate implementation. While the results of bridge inspection and renovation and upgrading of the above weak bridges are not yet available, the Department of Transport proposes that the Provincial People's Committee allow the implementation of the project: Installing height control frames for 18 weak bridges to limit vehicles with total vehicle weight exceeding the permitted weight.
In addition, the Department of Transport also requested the Provincial People's Committee to allow the preparation of a report proposing the investment policy for the project: Construction of a new Luong Nha bridge at km21+350 DT.317, Thanh Son district to replace the old bridge that is damaged, degraded, and has low operating capacity.
