The Vietnam U20 team will end their journey in Group A of the 2025 AFC U20 Championship Qualifiers with a match against Syria U20 at 7:00 p.m. today (September 29) at Lach Tray Stadium, Hai Phong.
This match is decisive for the ticket to the 2025 AFC U20 Finals of both U20 Vietnam and U20 Syria.

Before the decisive match, U20 Vietnam had 9 points with three big wins: 5-0 against U20 Bhutan, 3-0 against U20 Guam and 4-1 against U20 Bangladesh.
However, Coach Hua Hien Vinh's team still had to rank behind U20 Syria due to an inferior goal difference (+11 compared to +14). U20 Syria beat Bangladesh 4-0, defeated Bhutan 1-0 and defeated Guam 10-1.
This means that U20 Vietnam must win against U20 Syria to win the top spot in Group A, along with a direct ticket to China to attend the final round.
However, in case of not winning, U20 Vietnam still has the right to continue as one of the 5 second-placed teams with the best results if they share points with U20 Syria.
When comparing results with the second-placed team in groups, results against the bottom-placed team in groups of five teams will not be taken into account.
Thus, in case of a draw with U20 Syria in the final round, U20 Vietnam will have 7 points with a goal difference of +8 (if U20 Bangladesh is last) or +6 (if U20 Bhutan is last).
The second-placed teams in groups B, C, E, G will not have more than 6 points, so U20 Vietnam only needs 1 more team with a worse index to win a ticket to the 2025 U20 Asian Finals.
Currently, in the 4 groups D, F, I and J, the teams ranked first and second in the group all have a worse goal difference than U20 Vietnam.

Except for group H, U20 Thailand and U20 Iraq have very high goal difference, so if they draw in the last round, both teams will go to China together.
A remarkable coincidence is that the teams currently ranked first and second in groups A, D, F, H, I and J will all face each other in the final round of the qualifiers.
With the current situation, the Vietnam U20 team clearly has a huge advantage when compared to other opponents.
However, to ensure qualification for the 2025 AFC U20 Championship, the Vietnam U20 team needs to get at least 1 point in the final match against Syria U20.
The 2025 AFC U20 Championship qualifiers will feature 45 teams, divided into five groups of five and five groups of four. The 10 group winners and five best runners-up will qualify for the finals alongside host China.
Before the final round of matches took place, three teams, U20 South Korea, U20 North Korea and U20 Iran, had become the names that had quickly qualified for the qualifying round.
