Yen My commune focuses on developing large-scale agriculture

Việt NamViệt Nam03/05/2024

As a locality with a large agricultural production area, Yen My commune (Nong Cong) always focuses on applying scientific and technical advances in cultivation to improve people's production level. At the same time, flexibly applying mechanisms and policies of the province and district to attract economic sectors to invest in production towards large-scale, high-quality, high-value-added agriculture.

Yen My commune focuses on developing large-scale agriculture The large-scale, concentrated area of growing passion flower in Yen Binh village (Yen My) achieves a revenue of about 250 million VND/ha/year.

Yen My commune has about 1,411 hectares of agricultural land, which is the premise for the locality to promote the development of agricultural production. Therefore, in recent years, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Yen My commune have led and directed the development of agricultural production in a modern direction. Through the propaganda and orientation of the commune, people have promoted the conversion of crop structure, accumulation and concentration of land to develop large-scale agricultural production, gradually applying high technology. At the same time, building production models according to the value chain and implementing joint ventures and associations in production. Along with that, through supporting funding sources, dozens of large-scale agricultural production development models have been formed, contributing to improving the economic value, production level of the people and accelerating the process of building new rural areas of the locality.

After many trips to visit and learn from agricultural production models, Mr. Nguyen Trong Phuong, Yen Binh village, pioneered in renovating mixed gardens, choosing to use the passionflower as a conversion object, replacing low-economic-efficiency crops. Thanks to learning from the experience of growing passionflower during the field trip and diligently researching and learning from books and newspapers, Mr. Phuong converted about 300m2 of garden land to try planting. After a while, he found that passionflower is easy to grow, easy to care for, has few pests and diseases, and gives high economic efficiency. Therefore, since 2020, he has converted about 500m2 of garden land and rented rice fields from local people to grow passionflower. The total area is about 1ha. Mr. Phuong has invested in making trellises, planting poles, and stretching large zinc wires to create a solid trellis for the passionflower to cling to for a long time. At the same time, he improved the soil and applied organic fertilizer for the plants to grow and develop. Mr. Phuong said: “The passionflower plant is less susceptible to pests and diseases, and the care techniques are not too complicated. After one year of planting, the plant will climb strongly and be ready for harvest. Along with that, the market demand and consumption of passionflower products are quite large, so there is no need to worry too much about output. On average, each hectare can bring in about 250 million VND/year in revenue. This is an ideal income level, much higher than other traditional crops.”

From the model of growing passionflowers that brings high economic efficiency of Mr. Nguyen Trong Phuong's family, up to now, in Yen Binh village, there have been 38 households learning and expanding the production area. The total area of growing passionflowers in the whole commune is 18.69 hectares, most of which are produced according to VietGAP standards. Among them, there are some households growing on a large scale, such as: Mr. Nguyen Trong Dien's household 2.5 hectares; Mrs. Le Thi Tho's household 1 hectare; Mr. Nguyen Trong Dang's household 1.2 hectares... contributing to making passionflowers one of the main crops of the locality.

Comrade Pham Thi Dinh, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yen My commune, said: From the propaganda and support for visiting effective production models, up to now, people in the commune have caught up with the trend of large-scale agricultural development. Not only for the flower of the morning glory but also for many other crops such as vegetables and rice, local people also focus on expanding the production area. Accordingly, the whole commune has formed a concentrated safe vegetable production area of about 5 hectares, a model of growing squash of nearly 28 hectares, a model of growing sweet potatoes of about 5 hectares... However, the development of large-scale agriculture in the area still has many limitations, such as the models have not ensured the conditions for land accumulation and concentration to enjoy the support policies of the province and district. Besides, there are still many people producing according to traditional methods, the application of high technology in production is not clear, leading to economic efficiency not being as high as expected.

Not only in the field of cultivation, in livestock and aquaculture, local people also focus on concentrated and large-scale development. In particular, the commune has attracted the Industrial-scale Dairy Cow Farming and Milk Processing Project of Yen My Agricultural and Dairy High-Tech Application Two-Member Company Limited. Accordingly, local people have developed a dense corn material area for animal feed to serve the project of about 40 hectares. In addition, taking advantage of the large water surface, people in Trung Tam and Yen Nam villages... have developed more than 50 fish cages on Yen My lake...

The initial transition to large-scale, concentrated agricultural production has brought sustainable agricultural development directions to the people. At the same time, thanks to the expansion of large-scale agricultural production areas, the appearance of Yen My commune's agriculture sector has improved a lot. The rate of agricultural mechanization in the stages of land preparation, irrigation, and harvesting is increasing; the area of production linkage reaches about 70 hectares/year. The total value of agricultural production reaches more than 127 billion VND, accounting for nearly 20% of the commune's production.
