Poisoning case suspected of eating rat poison in Lai Chau: Victims' health has stabilized

After receiving timely emergency care at Lai Chau Provincial General Hospital, by early afternoon of November 5, the health of 20 preschool students at Giang Ma Commune Kindergarten, Tam Duong District (Lai Chau) was stable.

Doctors at Lai Chau Provincial General Hospital said the children's health has stabilized.

Early afternoon of November 5, information from the leaders of Giang Ma Commune Kindergarten and Lai Chau General Hospital said that after being taken to Lai Chau General Hospital for first aid and emergency procedures, the children's health is now stable.

In the next 24 to 72 hours, the children will continue to be monitored in the hospital to ensure their health.

According to teacher Dinh Thi Huong, a teacher at Giang Ma Kindergarten, Tam Duong district (Lai Chau), the 25-36 month old Kindergarten class has 20 students and 2 teachers in charge.

This morning when the incident happened, one girl was busy with personal hygiene, and the other girl was doing personal hygiene for the children.

At about 8:30 a.m. when returning to the classroom, the teacher discovered some children holding rat poison pills in their hands.

Because the teacher suspected that the children might have eaten rat poison like candy, he contacted the staff of the commune health station and took the children to the provincial general hospital for monitoring and treatment.

The doctors performed emergency treatment for the children.

Mr. Ma A Tua, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Giang Ma Commune, Tam Duong District, informed that the above rat poison was ordered online by a teacher of the school and on the afternoon of November 4, she opened it to use to kill rats at the school's warehouse and this warehouse is connected to the 25-36 month old class and the 5-6 year old class.

However, after using it, the teacher forgot to notify the teachers of the classes, which led to the above incident.

Samples of the children suspected of eating rat poison have been sent to the Central Government for testing to determine the cause.
