In the qualifying round that took place this afternoon, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team also defeated Indonesia 2-1 (21-19, 19-21, 21-19). At the world championship where Vietnam successfully defended its championship title, Vietnam also defeated Indonesia.
These are the bases for us to believe and expect that the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team has a great chance to win the gold medal in the women's 4-person team event.
* On the afternoon of October 3, Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Hai Dang faced Thailand's reigning world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the second round of men's singles badminton at the 19th ASIAD. This match is predicted to be very uneven, because Hai Dang is ranked 104th in the world, while Kunlavut Vitidsarn is ranked 4th.
However, in set 1, Hai Dang created a big surprise when he won 21-17 against the Thai player. After that, Kunlavut Vitidsarn regained his form in set 2 and won 21-18.
In set 3, Hai Dang showed signs of fatigue, while Kunlavut Vitidsarn still showed his class as a world-class tennis player. In this set, the Thai tennis player won 21-15, thereby securing a ticket to the next round with a total score of 2-1.
In March this year, Nguyen Hai Dang rose to the No. 1 position in men's singles badminton in Vietnam, replacing legendary player Nguyen Tien Minh in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings. Hai Dang broke the 21-year dominance of his senior Tien Minh in the Vietnamese badminton world.
Nguyen Hai Dang won the national youth championship in 2017 and 2018. He also won the Cyprus International Youth Badminton Championship.
The tennis player born in 2000 is considered "Vietnam's Momota" because his playing style is similar to the famous Japanese tennis player Kento Momota. Hai Dang is expected to become the successor of Nguyen Tien Minh.
Also on October 3, female tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh had a smooth start at ASIAD 19 when she easily defeated her opponent Mahoor Shahzad (from Pakistan).
Thuy Linh easily defeated Mahoor Shahzad with a score of 2-0 in just 23 minutes of play. This victory helped Thuy Linh gain the right to play in the round of 16 of the women's singles badminton event at the 19th ASIAD.
In this round, Thuy Linh will compete with the winner of the match between tennis player Ongbamrungphan (Thailand) and Letshanaa Karupathevan (Malaysia).
