Vietnam has 9 universities in world rankings by subject

The rankings were compiled by Times Higher Education using data from 1,700 universities in more than 100 countries and territories. The assessment is based on carefully considered indicators that reflect the overall ability of a university to provide an excellent learning and research environment. At the same time, the educational institution also contributes to the global community.

Accordingly, 9 Vietnamese universities entered the THE rankings in 2025, including Hanoi National University; Ho Chi Minh City National University; Duy Tan University; Ton Duc Thang University; Hanoi University of Science and Technology; Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics; Hanoi Medical University; Ho Chi Minh City Open University and Hue University.

Vietnam National University, Hanoi is the only higher education institution in Vietnam recognized by Times Higher Education for its educational research capabilities. It is also the institution in the rankings that includes all 8 groups of subjects mentioned above.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Duy Tan University and Ton Duc Thang University were all recognized in seven groups. These are business and economics, computer science, engineering, life sciences, medicine and health, physical sciences, and social sciences.

The remaining institutions are recognised in their core areas of study. Hanoi Medical University is ranked in the health and medicine category. Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is recognised in the business and economics and social sciences categories. Hanoi University of Science and Technology is recognised in the computer science, engineering and physical sciences categories.

The fact that up to 9 universities in Vietnam are ranked in subject groups by Times Higher Education shows that domestic higher education institutions have continuously improved the quality of training and research.

Times Higher Education is a prestigious global university ranking organization that evaluates educational institutions based on criteria such as teaching, research, scientific citations, internationalization and business income. The rankings published by this organization are trusted by academics and students worldwide.
