The 2023 World Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship attracted 462 players from 35 countries competing from June 5 to 12 in the age groups U.8, U.10, U.12, U.14, U.16, U.18 for men and women. The players competed in two events: rapid chess with each game lasting 15 minutes plus 5 seconds per move and blitz chess with each game lasting 5 minutes plus 3 seconds per move.
Pham Tran Gia Phuc won the U.14 men's gold medal
Thirteen Vietnamese players participating in the tournament include Le Phan Hoang Quan, Nguyen Nhat Khuong, Tran Ky Vy (male, U.8); Dau Khuong Duy (male, U.12); Dinh Nho Kiet, Pham Tran Gia Phuc (male, U.14); Nguyen Thi Quynh Hoa (female, U.8); Tong Thai Hoang An, Le Thai Hoang Anh (female, U.12); Ho Ngoc Vy, Mai Hieu Linh, Tran Dieu Linh (female, U.14) and Nguyen Hong Nhung (female, U.18).
Khuong Duy competed excellently, won the gold medal in U.12 men's competition.
In the rapid chess event that just ended, the Vietnamese chess team won big with 3 gold medals thanks to Le Thai Hoang Anh (female, U.12), Dau Khuong Duy (male, U.12), and Pham Tran Gia Phuc (male, U.14).
Le Thai Hoang Anh won the U.12 women's gold medal
In the U.14 men's team, Pham Tran Gia Phuc did not start well when he lost in the second game, but then exploded to have a total of 8 wins, 2 draws and won the gold medal with 9 points, 0.5 points more than his teammate Dinh Nho Kiet (silver medal). In the U.12 men's team, Dau Khuong Duy played extremely well when he was undefeated in 11 games with 10 wins, 1 draw to achieve a total of 10.5 points, 1.5 points more than his second-place opponent. In the U.12 women's team, Le Thai Hoang Anh had the same 10 points after 11 games as Altynbek Aiaru (Kazakhstan) but won the gold medal thanks to a better goal difference.
Today, Vietnamese players continue to compete in the blitz chess event of the 2023 World Youth Rapid and Blitz Championship, promising to reap more success.
