The 2023 World Youth Chess Championship for the U.8, U.10, and U.12 age groups for men and women will be held in Egypt from October 16. The players will compete in 11 standard Swiss-system games. Each win is worth 1 point, a draw is worth 0.5 points, and a loss is worth no points. The head-to-head results will determine the ranking if two players have the same score.

After the first 10 games, Vietnamese player Dau Khuong Duy led the table with 9 points, while Nguyen Nam Kiet was right behind with 8 points. With these two players facing each other in the final match (game 11), Vietnam was sure to have a world youth chess champion in the U.12 age group. Because before the final match, the number 1 seed of the tournament, Ahmad Khagan (Azerbaijan), was ranked 3rd with 7.5 points.

In the "final" match that took place on the afternoon of October 26, Dau Khuong Duy and Nguyen Nam Kiet were evenly matched. Thus, Khuong Duy won the gold medal in the 2023 World Youth Chess Championship U.12 group with 9.5 points. Meanwhile, Nam Kiet also won the silver medal with 8.5 points (more than the head-to-head match against player Ahmad Khagan).

Khuong Duy and Nguyen Nam Kiet were born in 2011 and are both players from Hanoi. In the U.12 age group, there is another player from Hanoi, Nguyen Manh Duc, who participated in the tournament but did not make it into the medal group.
