Boxer Tyson Fury suffered a serious cut on his right eyelid during a training session on February 2 after being hit by a fellow trainer despite wearing protective gear.

"It was a freak cut," said Tyson Fury's promoters. The 35-year-old boxer now needs stitches and is waiting for his recovery before resuming his fight with Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, 37.
Oleksandr Usyk currently holds the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles, while Tyson Fury holds the WBC title. The two heavyweight world champions agreed and held a press conference in November 2023, confirming the unification match for the heavyweight titles on February 17 in Saudi Arabia.
However, with only about 2 weeks left before the match, Tyson Fury suddenly suffered an inexplicable injury during a training session with his partner boxer.
"Think about retiring, brother. Fury is clearly a coward, he did everything he could to avoid facing me," boxer Oleksandr Usyk wrote in a comment, in Tyson Fury's message posted on social media announcing the incident that just happened to him.
"I can only apologize to everyone affected by this incident, including my team and Usyk's team. The lower-ranked fighters participating in the event, our partners and fans, as well as the host country of Saudi Arabia. I am completely devastated that the preparation for the fight was so good that it had to fall into this situation. Now, I will have to wait for my eyelid to heal, and promote the next step," Tyson Fury wrote on his Instagram account on February 2.

According to Mr. Frank Warren, promoter of boxer Tyson Fury: "This is a big blow for Fury. He has worked very hard, trained hard just for this match and unfortunately suffered a terrible cut. The match with Oleksandr Usyk on February 17 will be postponed and wait for the right time. We will definitely agree on the time to organize the match and will have an announcement as soon as possible".
In an interview with talkSport, Mr. Frank Warren also affirmed: "The match of the century between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will take place, that's for sure. The time is in 2024."
This is also the first heavyweight boxing championship unification match since Lennox Lewis's coronation in 1999.
