With more than a decade of experience in the garment industry, Mr. Dam Xuan Quang and the Vietflag team have chosen a meaningful direction: focusing on producing and processing national flags.

"The fire of revolution brightens the country/ Shines on the flag of Independence and Freedom", Uncle Ho's heroic verses in the poem "Lighting the Fire" affirm the sacred position of the red flag with yellow star, closely associated with the history of struggle and development of the Vietnamese people.

With a deep awareness of that, skilled workers at Vietflag always put their heart into every stage of production.

From first order to 2,000m² factory

As the New Year approaches, the staff at Vietflag's factory in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City becomes even busier, filled with the two main colors of red and yellow to produce a large number of national flags to meet continuous orders.

The story of Vietflag began with an order to produce national flags for a state agency.

At that time, Mr. Dam Xuan Quang, director of Vietflag Company Limited, realized that the flag market in Vietnam still had a lot of potential but lacked professional production units.

With his experience, in 2012, he and his team started participating in the production of flag products and hatched the idea of establishing a brand that not only provides quality flags, but also carries the mission of preserving and promoting national cultural values.

The flag is a sacred symbol, containing great spiritual value, which makes manufacturing work more special than a regular business field.

Initially, Vietflag faced many difficulties in terms of capital and human resources. Investing in modern machinery was a big challenge, not to mention training a team of skilled workers.

But luck and opportunity came when just one year after entering this field, Mr. Quang's team was trusted by the Government to be the flag supplier for the event of Korean President Park Geun Hye visiting Vietnam. This was a turning point that helped the company gradually affirm its reputation in the market.

Vietflag was officially established in 2015. Up to now, the company owns a factory of more than 2,000m2 in Ho Chi Minh City with more than 50 employees, producing over 2,500 flags per day.

Mr. Quang said that annual output can change depending on market demand. Vietflag products have appeared from urban areas to remote border areas and islands.

Face the challenge

In recent years, the flag manufacturing market has become increasingly competitive. In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a serious decline in sales due to social distancing and supply chain disruptions.

To adapt, Vietflag quickly shifted to producing masks and medical protective gear, while strictly applying epidemic prevention measures.

Overcoming difficult times, Vietflag continues to affirm its position by becoming one of the units participating in the program "One million national flags with fishermen at sea".

To produce large flags that can withstand the harsh sun and wind of the islands, every step from fabric selection to cutting and sewing is carefully taken care of.

However, during his management, Mr. Quang made a mistake when expanding production too quickly without carefully assessing market demand. This led to a large inventory, putting pressure on finances.

But Mr. Quang promptly adjusted his strategy, drawing an important lesson: development needs to be sustainable, with careful market research and risk prediction.

"Failure is part of the process of growing up. It is important to learn from mistakes so as not to repeat them in the future," Quang shared.

Focus on innovation

The flag manufacturing market in Vietnam has changed a lot over the years. Mr. Quang observed that customer demands are increasingly diverse and more demanding in terms of quality, design and style.

With the development of production technology, businesses are forced to constantly innovate to meet these requirements. Competition also becomes fiercer with the emergence of many new production units.

To survive, businesses like VietFlag need to optimize production costs while still ensuring product quality.

The production process of each national flag requires meticulousness, from fabric mixing, measuring, cutting to embroidery and star insertion. In particular, the process of attaching the yellow star in the middle requires careful alignment to ensure balance.

Investing in equipment such as embroidery machines, laser fabric cutters, and digital printers not only helps ensure quality but also increases productivity.

In particular, digital printing and heat transfer printing technology helps print logos and slogans on flags with high definition, meeting the strict requirements of customers.

According to Mr. Quang, the flag production market in Vietnam is still very potential with increasing demand from state agencies, political organizations, businesses and individuals.

Each customer group has its own requirements for the type of flag suitable for different purposes.

In particular, corporate customers often have high requirements for quality, delivery time and are strict about price.

Vietflag also faces competition from large rivals as well as companies with large production scale in many products and long-term experience in the market.

In addition, the market also has the participation of small-scale production facilities, focusing on certain products or geographical areas, along with cheap products imported from China and some other countries.

Vietflag representative assessed that cheap imported flag products create great competitive pressure on domestic manufacturing enterprises (especially in terms of price), however, they are often of poor quality, low durability, and colors fade quickly.

"We believe that customers are increasingly wise and will choose high-quality products with clear origins, even though the price may be higher. VietFlag believes that quality and reputation are key factors for long-term success," Mr. Quang shared.
