The official operation was carried out after talks between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chinese Premier Li Qiang on October 13, when the Chinese Premier visited Vietnam.

The Management Board of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark said that during the pilot period, the landscape maintained a stable number of visitors with 950 groups and about 12,000 visitors entering and leaving for tourism between the two countries.

When officially operational, the scenic area will receive a maximum of 1,000 visitors per day, 20 people per group. The cross-border tourist route is designed to include major attractions in both Vietnam and China.

On the Vietnamese side, visitors will tour from the foot of Ban Gioc waterfall, passing Saigon Hotel and Truc Lam Phat Tich Pagoda before returning to the checkpoint to return to China.

On the Chinese side, visitors will visit Detian Waterfall, shopping streets, high-altitude waterfall viewing points and sightseeing platforms, before returning to Vietnam.

Cao Bang province said that customs clearance procedures were carried out jointly by immigration, customs and quarantine forces, creating favorable conditions for tourists from both sides to visit and experience.

From December 2023, Vietnam and China will pilot the operation of the Ban Gioc - Duc Thien scenic area. Vietnamese and Chinese tourists can visit the Ban Gioc - Duc Thien waterfall scenic area without a visa, only need a passport and travel document. Tourists complete procedures in the morning to cross the border on the same day instead of having to wait 1-3 days as before.

The Ban Gioc Waterfall Scenic Area (Vietnam) - Detian (China) with an area of ​​400 hectares, including 200 hectares of Vietnamese territory and 200 hectares of Chinese territory, has been signed by both sides to cooperate in protecting and effectively exploiting resources. The operation of the scenic area is of great significance in economic development cooperation, friendly exchange in the border area, especially tourism development.

Located on the Vietnam - China border, Ban Gioc waterfall is located in Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province. This is considered a place with majestic natural scenery like a fairyland. With a height of more than 60 m, the longest slope is 30 m, Ban Gioc waterfall has been named many times as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam, the largest natural waterfall in Southeast Asia and the fourth largest waterfall on the border in the world. In May, Ban Gioc waterfall was named in the list of 21 most beautiful waterfalls in the world in 2024 voted by the prestigious American travel magazine Travel + Leisure , ranked 17th.
