(To Quoc) - Regarding the issue of preserving relics, including the restoration and repair of degraded relics in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports has informed the press.

Currently, in Ho Chi Minh City, there are 193 ranked relics and more than 130 works that have been unanimously included in the inventory list of relics by the Departments and District People's Committees, all of which are preserved (protected) according to the provisions of the Law on Cultural Heritage and other relevant regulations.

Regarding the preservation of relics, specifically, with the two relics of Truong Tan Buu Tomb and Hung Loi Pottery Kiln, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that the Hung Loi Pottery Kiln relic is currently degraded, the upper part of the kiln has collapsed, only the foundation of the structure remains. The implementation of the project to restore and embellish the Hung Loi Pottery Kiln relic has been delayed due to encroachment, complicated land disputes, and prolonged complaints.

The City Monuments Conservation Center (the unit expected to be assigned as the investor) is making a plan and estimating the total investment to propose capital allocation according to the provisions of the Law on Public Investment; expected to renovate and restore in the period of 2026-2030.

Currently, the People's Committee of District 8 has basically completed the construction of a fence to protect the relic on the state-owned land area, and has strengthened security work to prevent the relic from being encroached upon or damaged.

For the Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum relic, currently, the tomb, screen, and tomb wall have peeled and cracked in some places, the decorative patterns on the screen have degraded over time, therefore, the restoration must be researched to suit the architecture and materials to ensure the ancient features of the ancient tomb relic.

The Department said that the People's Committee of Phu Nhuan District and the Relic Management Board have not yet proposed any restoration or renovation to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism since 2020. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has coordinated with relevant units to discuss with the People's Committee of Phu Nhuan District on the restoration and renovation of the Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also said that the restoration and rehabilitation of relics takes more time than projects in other fields, because it must comply with many current legal regulations such as the Law on Public Investment, the Law on Cultural Heritage, the Law on Construction, etc. Therefore, it requires the coordination of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for national relics, along with many related departments such as the Department of Planning and Investment, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Construction, the Department of Finance, etc.

Information on the protection of national relics in Ho Chi Minh City is currently being implemented by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the People's Committees at district and commune levels, and organizations and individuals directly managing the relics in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Cultural Heritage and other relevant regulations. From 2021 to present, there has been no damage to relics, loss of artifacts at the relics, no illegal religious activities at the relics, security and environmental sanitation are ensured; national relics attract more and more tourists to visit and learn.

At the national relic of Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum, the Department said that there is currently 01 family living and taking care of the relic since before 1975, therefore, accessing to visit and learn about it is more difficult than at other relics. In the city, there are no regulations on granting permits to organizations and individuals to visit relics, the Department of Culture and Information supports organizations and individuals to visit and learn about relics in the area when requested.

The Department of Culture and Sports will discuss with the People's Committee of Phu Nhuan District and the Department of Culture and Sports of Phu Nhuan District regarding the reflection that Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum does not allow people to visit, and when requesting to take photos or visit, they are required to have a permit from the Department of Culture and Sports...
