The bigger the storms in the East Sea, the higher the soldiers' will, because of the role and responsibility of being the vanguard, protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland of the Truong Sa youth, especially when having the honor of entering the ranks of the Party.

Morning on Sinh Ton Dong Island, Truong Sa archipelago, beautiful sunshine, clear sky after several days of rain, in the sand-blocking forest, a few soldiers swayed to the music. The sound of the guitar echoed among the waves, the wind whistled from the ocean mixed with the lyrics of the song Proud Melody, sometimes low, sometimes high. The song carried the pride of the young soldiers in the beloved Truong Sa of the Fatherland.
From the first day I learned to talk, my mother taught me the melody of pride.
The song rang out, the innocent child did not understand anything
Then the days came when I wore a red scarf and proudly sang
The majestic song, the song from millions of hearts…

After a while of practicing singing and playing instruments, the young soldiers turned to ask each other about the script for the cultural exchange with the delegation from the mainland visiting the island. Sitting among the young soldiers, professional lieutenant Le Gia Huy, 28 years old, the "big brother" in the group, smiled brightly, revealing his charming buck teeth. "You guys have to sing a little more passionately to make it better," Huy suggested.
Le Gia Huy used to be an electric guitar accompanist and had been performing since he was a student of education. Later, thinking about "the need to contribute something, to society, to the country", the young man from Vung Tau volunteered to join the army (in 2019).
Wearing a soldier's uniform, Huy was very proud, determined to complete his mission well, and expressed his opinion to the commander to dedicate himself to the army for a long time. After that, he put on his backpack and went to the North to study for two more years at the Armored Vehicle Technical College in Hoa Binh. Finally, all his efforts were rewarded, the young soldier who had gone on duty years ago had become a professional soldier.
In the army, apart from performing his duties, Huy had the opportunity to develop his talent for playing and singing. With the support and encouragement of his commander, he became the "core" of the unit's art. In addition to satisfying his passion, he also opened small classes to help young people who had just arrived on the island learn to play and sing.
"I call it teaching, but I only know what I teach. Besides songs like Thanh nien lam theo loi Bac , Truyen thuy Hoang Sa - Truong Sa , I also often sing songs that have captivated people's hearts like Nho oi , Ha Noi mua vong nhung cuong mua . Whenever I feel emotional, I play songs by Thu Phuong and Trinh Cong Son.
I want to show everyone that soldiers are not dry or angular, they also love art, love and express their feelings through songs. When exchanging arts, the relationship between the army and the people becomes much closer," the young lieutenant confided.

Although he has performed many times, there have been times when he encountered problems. One time, during a meeting with a delegation from the mainland, while he was singing, the power went out and the entire hall went dark. Thinking that "everything was over", suddenly his teammates sang in unison and clapped their hands to encourage the "reluctant" singer on stage.
"At that time I was very surprised, afraid that everyone would laugh, but my teammates sang very loudly, I later found out so that I wouldn't feel lonely and embarrassed," he confided.
Overcoming difficulties, showing will
Looking at the navy ship anchored offshore, Huy remembered the days when he first arrived at the island. The first day he boarded the ship, he was excited and eager, thinking that the island would be like in the movies, with palm trees, birds, and beautiful sunshine. But before he arrived, he encountered the ocean waves. Sometimes the waves were several meters high, the sky cleared up a bit, then the rain poured down, splashing back and forth against the boat, and then the seasickness came.
"The mainland is very different from the sea. At sea, everything is far away, all you see is water, desolate and empty. But when living on the island, there are comrades to chat, confide in, and then command and encourage, saying that our great ancestors picked up each stone and coral to build the island as it is today, so everyone must try to protect the island, so gradually we forget the difficulties," he confided.
Every time there is electricity from the mainland, Huy tries to tell as many stories as possible about the journey, the hardships, the difficulties and the happiness of overcoming challenges and being praised by his superiors to make his parents proud.
"Over the past year, I have learned a lot, from self-training, improving my skills and expertise to communicating with my comrades and teammates. But there are still many things I have not been able to show my full potential, such as shooting...", Huy said, scratching his ear.

As a new party member, Huy always showed his enthusiasm and youthful energy. For example, one time, even though he had completed his mission, it was noon, and he saw his teammates had not finished loading the goods, he still "braved the sun" with his teammates to move the goods from the dock to the warehouse, or learned how to build sand banks to prevent flooding, and even repair generators himself...
Before his leave, he still remembered to bring the jar of rice fish sauce sent from the mainland. "I still remember the sweet and sour taste of rice fish sauce. Many places make fish sauce, but I still like the taste of my mother. When I eat it, I remember my parents' words to stay healthy and try to complete my tasks well because I am now a cadre," Huy said with a smile.
What character traits do young people need to develop when joining the army?
According to Lieutenant Colonel Luong Tu Da - political commissar of Sinh Ton Dong island, professional military lieutenant Le Gia Huy is the "core" of the unit's art during every break, gathering, activity, and singing exchange.
"Young people often gather to sing songs about the sea, islands and homeland. This is a great way to erase the difficulties and hardships of the stormy sea. Comrade Huy has gone through the process of studying, striving and training on the island and completing his tasks well, honorably standing in the ranks of the Party.
The previous generations have always enthusiastically helped and supported young people to develop their personal strengths and overcome their personal weaknesses with love and the spirit of a soldier. The most important thing is to enhance the spirit of determination to overcome difficulties, maintain loyalty to the Party, the Fatherland, the people and complete assigned tasks well.
For soldiers, meticulousness is very important from performing housekeeping to planning work. When we learn meticulousness, we will practice being careful and meticulous in our work," he said.
