Having the opportunity to visit Kim Boi District Ethnic Minority High School, we were told by Mr. Nguyen Trong Hung, Vice Principal of the School, about many creative ways of propagating the prevention of TH-HNCHT for the School's students. Thanks to that, the School has not recorded any cases of dropping out of school to get married.

In the middle of the school yard, we were impressed by the billboard placed in an easy-to-see position with many easy-to-remember slogans, made by the Ethnic Minorities Committee of Hoa Binh province in coordination with the Ethnic Minorities Office of Kim Boi district, with the content: " Marriage only within the age prescribed by law/Prohibition of marriage between people of the same direct bloodline or within 3 generations/For the health of the community and a civilized, progressive society "...

Through conversations with some students, questions such as: What is the legal age of marriage? Why is it forbidden to marry someone with the same bloodline or within 3 generations (also known as incestuous marriage)? What are the consequences of TH-HNCHT? The students answered quite clearly and completely.

Student Bui Hong Ngoc, Muong ethnic, class 7B said, our questions were quite easy, because extracurricular activities organized by the school often have this topic. In class, teachers also often share about the harmful effects of early love, about TH-HNCHT, from which she knows that early marriage is a violation of the law. Therefore, she and her classmates will focus on studying, not falling in love early to have a brighter future.

Pham Nhu Quynh, a 10th grade student, explained in detail that the school often organizes extracurricular activities to promote TH-HNCHT in many forms such as: organizing competitions, dramatization and videos... Last school year, she and her friends watched the seniors practice and participate in the TH-HNCHT Law Competition for students of ethnic boarding schools in the province, organized by the Provincial Ethnic Committee. The competition helped her and her friends in the school gain more skills, knowledge and legal understanding to protect themselves, not letting themselves become victims of TH-HNCHT.

Teacher Nguyen Trong Hung, Vice Principal of Kim Boi District Ethnic Minority High School and Secondary School, said that in order to prevent the situation of TH-HNCHT, the school has developed a plan to coordinate with units such as the Provincial Ethnic Committee and the District Ethnic Committee to organize various forms of propaganda such as: distributing leaflets, hanging banners, posters, showing video clips; integrating propaganda into classroom hours in a number of subjects such as Civic Education, Economic and Legal Education, Literature...; propaganda associated with cultural and artistic activities, extracurricular activities, flag-raising activities by topic; organizing contests to learn about TH-HNCHT knowledge, Law on Marriage and Family...

Mr. Hung proudly said that in 2023, at the Law Competition on TH-HNCHT for students of Ethnic Boarding Schools in the province, Kim Boi District Ethnic Minority High School and Secondary School actively responded and participated. As a result, the students in the school excellently won the First Prize in the cluster round; at the Provincial Finals, they won the Third Prize.

According to Mr. Hung, the contest has 4 main parts: greeting, skit, knowledge contest and eloquence. If the skit contest helps students understand the harmful effects and consequences of TH-HNCHT, the knowledge and eloquence contest helps students grasp the legal regulations on the Law on Marriage and Family, the Law on Gender Equality, the Law on Children and the Law on Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence, etc.

Through extracurricular activities at school and through the law competition, students have accumulated knowledge and skills to protect themselves against the problem of TH-HNCHT.

Emphasizing the effectiveness of the Competition on learning about the law and preventing TH-HNCHT, Deputy Head of the Ethnic Minorities Department of Kim Boi district - Dinh Cong Phung said: "Such a competition brings about very high propaganda effectiveness, creating a useful playground for children to study, exchange knowledge, and improve their understanding of the law; perhaps the children themselves will be channels of information, active propagandists to relatives, friends in school and the residential areas where they live, creating a spreading influence to the community and society to participate in pushing back the TH&HNCHT situation".

Mr. Dinh Cong Phung, Deputy Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Kim Boi district also emphasized: Through extracurricular activities in school, and through the competition, students have been able to practice many life skills, experience and express themselves, develop their abilities and strengths, share information with friends, and have a healthy and beneficial learning and training environment. Most importantly, students have accumulated knowledge and skills to protect themselves from this problem.
