Dam Sang village, Van Thuy commune is mainly inhabited by Muong people. In recent years, some neighboring villages still have child marriage, but Dam Sang village has no cases of TH-HNCHT. This result is due to the efforts in implementing good propaganda and mobilization work of local Party committees, authorities and prestigious people to prevent child marriage and incestuous marriage.
Talking to us, Mr. Bui Van Rau, a prestigious person in Dam Sang village, said: he used to be the Chairman of the Veterans Association of the village, and in 2020 was elected as a prestigious person and Chairman of the Elderly Association of the village.
Realizing that some neighboring villages still had early marriage, and fearing that the young generation in his village would follow suit, Mr. Rau actively coordinated with the mass organizations of the commune and village, regularly mobilizing people to comply with the Party's policies and guidelines, the State's laws and policies, and the Law on Marriage and Family, instructing children in the family, relatives, and neighbors to focus on studying for a better future, and not to drop out of school to get married early.
Mr. Rau said that in order to gain more skills in propagating and mobilizing the people, he actively participated in training sessions organized by the Provincial Ethnic Committee, the Department of Justice, the District and Commune Ethnic Committee. From there, he gained more knowledge to propagate to the people and to his own family, children and grandchildren...
When talking to Bui An Khang, a 5th grade student at Thuong Bi Primary and Secondary School, Mr. Rau's grandson, about basic issues related to early marriage, Khang appeared to be very knowledgeable, and clearly stated that the age of marriage for men is 20 years old and for women is 18 years old. Khang emphasized that he learned that knowledge at school and when he got home, his grandfather shared it with him.
Mr. Bui Van Hop, Deputy Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Kim Boi district, said that in addition to Mr. Bui Van Rau, Kim Boi district also has many typical prestigious people in propagating and disseminating legal education, on preventing child marriage and incestuous marriage in ethnic minority areas such as: Mr. Trieu Luc Lien, Dao ethnic group (Ba Ra village, Hung Son commune); Mr. Duong Minh Dung, Village Elder, Prestigious Dao ethnic group (Thung Dao Bac hamlet, Tu Son commune);...
Currently, Kim Boi district has 158 prestigious people in the ethnic minority area, including Muong, Dao, Tay ethnic groups... Members include: Village elders, village chiefs, retired officials, shamans...
In recent years, the District People's Committee has assigned the Ethnic Affairs Department to coordinate with agencies, units, specialized departments, and People's Committees of communes and towns to effectively implement policies for Prestigious People. Specifically: giving gifts to Prestigious People on the occasion of Lunar New Year; visiting Prestigious People and their relatives who are sick or deceased; training, fostering, and providing information to Prestigious People; organizing delegations of Prestigious People to visit and exchange experiences in other localities; providing newspapers and magazines to Prestigious People, etc.
The good implementation of policies has created motivation for prestigious people to promote their role in all areas of social life, especially in propaganda and mobilization work for people to well implement the State's legal policies, including those in the fields of marriage and family, and prevention of TH-HNCHT.
“A prestigious person is someone who is close, closely connected and has a voice in the community, so in the work of propaganda, mobilization and prevention of child marriage, a prestigious person is always at the forefront of persuasion and mobilization, thanks to which the situation of child marriage has decreased every year,” Mr. Bui Quang Hop, Deputy Head of the Ethnic Minorities Department of Kim Boi district, emphasized.
