This morning, August 8, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Head of the National Steering Committee against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods (National Steering Committee 389) chaired a national online conference to review the work of fighting smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the first 6 months of the year and deploy tasks for the last 6 months of 2024.

According to the report of the National Steering Committee 389, in the first 6 months of 2024, the activities of buying, selling, transporting prohibited goods, smuggling, illegal transportation of goods, trade fraud and counterfeit goods across borders, land border gates, trails, border openings, sea borders, seaports, sea areas, and key inland areas were not too complicated, and no hot spots arose.
Authorities nationwide detected and handled 64,185 violations (down 2.82% over the same period). Of these, there were 6,042 cases of trading and transporting prohibited and smuggled goods (up 172.28% over the same period); 55,133 cases of trade fraud and tax fraud (down 9.7% over the same period); 3,010 cases of counterfeit goods and intellectual property violations (up 8.55% over the same period).
Thereby, the functional forces have collected more than 6,066,792 billion VND for the State budget (down 7.53% over the same period); prosecuted 650 criminal cases (down 44.25% over the same period) with 1,913 subjects (down 18.82% over the same period).
In the last 6 months of 2024, the National Steering Committee 389, ministries, branches and localities will continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the directives of the Government, the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee 389 on the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; continue to review and propose solutions to difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
Proactively develop programs, plans, and solutions to combat smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods in accordance with local developments and task requirements; especially focus on combating and effectively preventing illegal trading and transportation of drugs, firecrackers, wildlife, smuggling, gasoline, tobacco, sugar, gold, foreign currency, etc.
At the conference, delegates focused on clarifying difficulties and obstacles and proposed solutions to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the coming time. Many localities proposed solutions to combat in areas such as taking advantage of e-commerce to trade in prohibited goods, smuggled goods, goods of unknown origin; illegally buying, selling and transporting goods, prohibited goods, smuggled goods through airports; smuggling, buying, selling and illegally transporting drugs, firecrackers, frozen foods, livestock, poultry across the border...
In his concluding remarks at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang acknowledged and commended the achievements that functional forces across the country have achieved in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in recent times. At the same time, he requested ministries, branches and localities to focus on and synchronously deploy solutions to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the coming time.
Units, according to their assigned responsibilities and tasks, focus on directing resolutely, especially promoting the role of leaders in combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods; firmly grasp the area, strengthen coordination between agencies, sectors and localities in performing tasks.
Ministries, branches and localities need to strengthen inspection, supervision and detection of loopholes, errors and limitations to rectify and overcome violations by officials; improve the working capacity of officials, especially in applying information technology; promote and innovate propaganda work, raise awareness for people to become smart consumers; study and amend institutions and inadequate legal regulations... to facilitate the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
