Stop enrolling 22 specialized 10th grade classes from 2025
The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just provided detailed information on some new points in the 10th grade entrance exam in the city in 2025.
Accordingly, from 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will stop enrolling in 22 specialized classes at 4 high schools that usually have specialized classes: Nguyen Huu Huan, Nguyen Thuong Hien, Mac Dinh Chi and Gia Dinh, with a total quota of 770 students.
Specifically, Nguyen Huu Huan High School (Thu Duc City) will stop enrolling in 5 specialized classes: literature, math, physics, chemistry, and English, with a total of 175 enrollment targets.
Mac Dinh Chi High School (District 6) stopped enrolling 6 specialized classes with 210 quotas, in specialized subjects of literature, math, physics, chemistry, biology, and English.
Nguyen Thuong Hien High School (Tan Binh District) stopped enrolling in 5 specialized classes: literature, math, physics, chemistry, and English, with 175 quotas.
Gia Dinh High School (Binh Thanh District) will stop enrolling in 6 specialized classes: literature, math, physics, chemistry, English, and information technology, with 210 targets.
The suspension of enrollment for 22 specialized 10th grade classes at the above 4 schools in 2025 is expected to increase competition for admission to specialized 10th grade classes at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted.
Adjusting the calculation of the rate of 9th grade students entering 10th grade
Also according to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, from 2025, the City will adjust the calculation of the rate of 9th grade students entering 10th grade public high schools.
Accordingly, the enrollment target for the 2025-2026 school year of public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City will depend on the reception capacity of each high school according to the conditions of facilities, rooms, teaching staff and development strategy of each school when implementing the 2018 General Education Program, not controlled by the streaming rate as in previous years.
Admission quotas for grade 10 are also calculated to suit each locality.
Previously, from 2018 to 2023, Ho Chi Minh City will stream about 70% of junior high school graduates into grade 10 public high schools through the grade 10 entrance exam, according to the Prime Minister's Project on vocational education and orientation of student streaming in general education for the period 2018-2025; the remaining 30% of students will study at vocational education centers - continuing education centers, continuing education centers; study at private high schools; and learn a trade.
In 2024 alone, the traffic flow rate will be adjusted by Ho Chi Minh City to 65% and 35%, in the project implementation roadmap.
The 10th grade entrance exam in 2025 will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on June 6 and 7, with three subjects: literature, math and foreign language. Candidates taking the specialized exam will take an additional specialized subject. This is also the first entrance exam under the 2018 General Education Program, so according to the Department of Education and Training, the exam will increase application, closely following the goal of assessing students' abilities of the new program.
It is expected that in early March, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will issue a plan to enroll in public grade 10 schools for the 2025-2026 school year, after which the City Department of Education and Training will announce the grade 10 quota of 113 public high schools in the area.
