Students who win city-level science and technology awards get extra points when taking the 10th grade entrance exam.

Students taking the 10th grade entrance exam will receive a maximum of 1.5 points if they win a science and technology award or a city-level Phu Dong sports festival.

According to the regulations on secondary and high school admissions recently issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates will be given bonus points when taking the 10th grade entrance exam in the following cases:

Secondary school students who win provincial-level prizes organized by the Department of Education and Training or in coordination with departments and branches organized on a provincial scale for competitions organized at the national level; Encouragement points are added to the total admission score calculated on a 10-point scale for each subject of the exam. In which, the first prize is added 1.5 points, the second prize is added 1 point, the third prize is added 0.5 points.

So currently there are 2 exams that meet the above conditions: the city-level science and technology exam and the city-level Phu Dong sports festival.

Meanwhile, many secondary school teachers in Ho Chi Minh City wonder whether students who win prizes in the 9th grade excellent student contest will get extra points when taking the 10th grade entrance exam or not? Because this is an exam that attracts a lot of excellent students to participate.

"Only students who are truly passionate will spend time participating in the city-level 9th ​​grade excellent student competition. Those who win prizes are all potential students in a certain field. If we only give points to students who compete in science and technology or the Phu Dong sports festival but not to students who win city-level excellent student prizes, it will be a great disadvantage for these students.

Some parents will also not be interested in letting their children take the exam. Thus, creating resources for specialized classes at high school level will also be difficult" - said a principal of a middle school in Ho Chi Minh City.

Entrance exam to grade 10 with 3 subjects

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the entrance exam for grade 10 will have 3 subjects and tests, including: math, literature and a third subject or test. This subject (or test) is selected by the Department of Education and Training.

The third exam is a combination exam of a number of subjects selected from among the subjects assessed by scores in the secondary school general education program.

Regarding exam time, the circular stipulates: literature 120 minutes; math 90 minutes or 120 minutes; third exam 60 minutes or 90 minutes; combined exam 90 minutes or 120 minutes.

The exam content is within the secondary school education program, mainly grade 9.
