South Korean President visits Samsung Research and Development Center

According to information from the Office of the President of South Korea, on the morning of June 24, President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol visited the Research and Development (R&D) Center of Samsung Electronics located in the capital Hanoi.

The visit demonstrates his commitment to nurturing scientific and technological talent.

Samsung Electronics' research and development (R&D) center in Hanoi has an investment scale of 220 million USD. This is also the largest R&D facility of the Korean technology corporation in Southeast Asia.

During the visit, the President of South Korea met and exchanged with about 50 young experts in the digital field from Vietnam and South Korea.

President Yoon Suk Yeol said the two countries have evolved from production cooperation partners to important research and development partners.

He also pledged to actively support joint research between the two countries to create innovative values ​​combining technology, while expanding the scale of capacity building programs for future generations.

Samsung Electronics produces more than 50% of its smartphones sold worldwide in Vietnam.

The company said it has 2,200 employees working at its 16-story R&D Center building to research and develop software and technology for mobile phones, networking and other smart devices.

The visit to Samsung Electronics R&D Center was the final activity of President Yoon Suk Yeol during his three-day state visit to Vietnam.

Previously, on December 23, 2022, Samsung inaugurated the R&D Center in the West Lake area, Hanoi capital.

This is the first large-scale high-rise building specializing in technology development in Vietnam established by an FDI enterprise and is also a symbol of Vietnam - Korea economic cooperation.

Through the construction of the Center, Samsung realizes its strategy of elevating Vietnam not only as a global manufacturing base but also as a research and development base.

Samsung plans to develop the R&D Center in Vietnam into the number one global research and development center by promoting cooperation with universities in key technology fields of the future such as: Improving expertise in core technology research of mobile devices (Multimedia, Security); improving research and development capacity to achieve autonomy in technology products; artificial intelligence (AI)/Big Data/Internet of Things (IoT) technology... and increasing support for training human resources in information technology (IT) in Vietnam.

The core mission of Samsung Vietnam R&D Center is to contribute to laying the foundation for Vietnamese technology talents. In addition, Samsung hopes to actively contribute to the development of the hardware (H/W) and software (S/W) fields in line with the advanced information technology field and the industrial revolution 4.0.
