In September, the commodity market in the northern provinces was greatly affected by storm No. 3 (storm Yagi), so demand increased, focusing on food, foodstuffs, and dried goods. The storm and its circulation caused heavy rains and floods, damaging many vegetable and flower growing areas, so vegetable prices in some northern provinces increased locally at times. During the period when the northern provinces were hit by storms and floods, under the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the supply of goods was basically directed by the Department of Industry and Trade of localities to distribution enterprises and small traders at markets to have plans to ensure regular maintenance for the market. For areas that have not been flooded or isolated, the supply of goods has always been guaranteed, and the prices of goods at modern distribution systems have been kept stable; In traditional markets, the prices of some vegetables, tubers, pork, and noodles have increased but not dramatically. Supply is regularly supplemented by the coordination of businesses from the South and from imports from China, so there is almost no phenomenon of unreasonable price increases or shortages.

Domestic goods market is vibrant, supply is guaranteed

For flooded, isolated areas, the Department of Industry and Trade, businesses and philanthropists have coordinated with local authorities to provide essential goods such as noodles, dry food, bread, banh chung, bottled water, etc. to the people. For other essential goods, supply and demand have not fluctuated much, the market is generally stable, some fuel and energy items, domestic prices fluctuate according to world prices.

September is also the beginning of the new school year, so the demand for school supplies increases. In addition, the demand for moon cakes, flowers, and fruits also increases during the Mid-Autumn Festival. In the market, the supply of goods is abundant and diverse, so prices do not increase abnormally.

In general, in September 2024, the recovery of domestic consumption and production demand, along with the strong growth of tourism, contributed positively to the growth of the trade and service sector. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in September 2024 are estimated to increase by 1.2% over the previous month and by 7.6% over the same period last year. In the first 9 months of 2024, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue increased by 8.8% over the same period last year, the highest increase since the beginning of the year.

Some localities (mainly key tourism localities) had high retail sales of goods in the first 9 months compared to the same period last year, such as: Quang Ninh increased by 10.4%; Hai Phong increased by 9.3%; Can Tho increased by 7.7%; Da Nang increased by 7.4%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 7.2%; Hanoi increased by 7.0%.

In order to strongly develop domestic trade, effectively exploit the domestic market, along with synchronously implementing solutions to complete the 2024 plan tasks, in the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to coordinate with local ministries and branches to closely monitor market developments, ensure adequate supply of essential goods to serve people's needs, especially during peak holidays and Tet, and prevent shortages and price hikes. Continue to coordinate with ministries and branches in advising on price management of state-managed goods, including petroleum products, to ensure the supply of petroleum products in the market, contributing to controlling general inflation according to the Government's goals. Promote the development of e-commerce to more effectively exploit the strong development of the digitalization trend of the economy; further enhance the quality and effectiveness of market inspection and control; step up the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, origin fraud, and unfair competition. Implement the Competition Law, the Law on Consumer Protection... to ensure a healthy and equal production and business environment for enterprises and the rights of consumers.
