Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, General Director of FPT Group, said that Google - Temasek forecasts that Vietnam's digital economy will reach 36 billion USD, an increase of 16% compared to 2023. The Ministry of Information and Communications estimates that the digital economy will contribute 18.6% of GDP this year. "These are encouraging results and I believe that the digital economy will reach the target of contributing 30% to GDP by 2030, if there are strong and comprehensive changes," Mr. Khoa commented. 4 things to do strongly According to Mr. Khoa, first, the Law on Digital Technology Industry will soon be passed, helping to promote artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors to be strongly applied, making good use of the benefits of digital technology, creating a foundation for the development of digital economic sectors. Second, the business community wants the State to have a data sharing mechanism because data is a gold mine, a priceless resource of the country, if exploited, it will promote the digital economy. Third, which is also a very important point, is how to increase the proportion of digital economic workers in the entire workforce even higher. With the goal of the digital economy accounting for 30% of GDP, the proportion of the digital economic workforce in the entire workforce needs to be proportional. FPT General Director emphasized: "From now on, we need to focus on training AI, Robotics, STEM for students from high school level to have a team that is "both strong and high", meaning enough quantity and quality to realize this very challenging digital economic growth goal. Vietnam needs to become a cradle for training digital human resources". Fourth, there needs to be a more drastic transformation of all fields that contribute to the digital economy, from e-commerce to finance, manufacturing, information technology, education, etc.; or industries that Vietnam has strengths in such as agriculture, tourism... In addition, the education sector needs to quickly take the lead in digitizing teaching, from online training to digitizing lecture data warehouses, online exams... The healthcare sector needs to digitize so that people can access medical examination and treatment, buy medicine... conveniently and transparently. If done well, it can contribute 5% of GDP by 2030. Seizing the opportunity of e-commerce Mr. Khoa said that e-commerce - a pillar sector of the digital economy estimated to reach 22 billion USD in 2024 - needs to seize the opportunity of Vietnam being in the top 10 in the world in terms of e-commerce growth rate to have breakthrough revenue growth initiatives. For example, training sales on digital platforms for hundreds of thousands of SMEs (small and medium enterprises) from urban to rural areas; Developing smart logistics centers in key economic regions... It is estimated that e-commerce can contribute 12% of GDP by 2030. The industrial sector needs to consider AI, IoT, and automation in production as vital to improve productivity, reduce costs, and thus increase the current contribution of 2-3% to 7% of GDP. Information technology has many opportunities to contribute 7-8% of GDP by 2030, because Vietnam has a place on the global technology map and has 1 million IT engineers. "Overall, to achieve the target of 30% of GDP from the digital economy, Vietnam needs to build a synchronous digital ecosystem, increase digitalization in all industries and fields, and develop high-quality digital human resources," Mr. Khoa concluded.
