According to GameRant, rumors about the remake of the legendary game Halo 1 (Combat Evolved) have appeared for a long time but have not been confirmed by Halo Studios. According to Rebs Gaming, a famous information leaker in the gaming community, this project is said to have started the pre-production phase since January 2024 and is currently in full development.
Launched in 2001, Halo: Combat Evolved sold over 6 million copies, featured revolutionary gameplay, and recently raised expectations with a demo on Unreal Engine 5.
Signs that development is underway include extensive hiring at Halo Studios, Rebs Gaming said. The studio has previously announced that it will ramp up hiring as projects enter advanced stages of development, and recent large hiring sprees are seen as evidence of this. However, there has been no official confirmation from Halo Studios as to whether a remaster is actually in the works.
When 343 Industries reorganized and became Halo Studios, it also announced that it would be moving to Unreal Engine 5, which was accompanied by renders that looked very much like Halo: Combat Evolved. While it didn't confirm any remaster projects, the move raised the possibility that a remaster was in the works.
In addition to Halo: Combat Evolved , Rebs Gaming also revealed information about another project codenamed Ekur, which is said to be in development by Certain Affinity. Accordingly, the Ekur project has been in development since 2022 and has test servers set for June 2024. This leads Rebs Gaming to believe that Ekur is likely to be the next Halo title to be released, before the Combat Evolved remake. However, this is just a leak and should be taken with caution.
2025 is expected to be a pivotal year for the Halo franchise. If projects that have been quietly in development are announced, it could be a big surprise for the gaming community. For now, players can only wait for more official information from Halo Studios.
