Continue to effectively implement the TRVC Project in Dong Thap province

DTO - On the morning of March 21, at the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Minh Tuan and leaders of relevant departments and branches had a meeting and worked with the delegation of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) on the Project on Transforming the Rice Value Chain to Respond to Climate Change and Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC).

The delegation included Ms. Christie Ann Getman - Head of the SNV Representative Office in Vietnam; Ms. Madeleine Plocki - Second Secretary, Australian Embassy in Vietnam; and other members of the delegation.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Minh Tuan expressed his pleasure to welcome the delegation, and highly appreciated the attention and support of the Australian Government and SNV for the agricultural development of Dong Thap province in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general. Mr. Huynh Minh Tuan emphasized that the Project is of great significance in promoting the transformation of rice production towards sustainability, adaptation to climate change, increasing added value and income for farmers.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Minh Tuan hopes to continue receiving support and companionship from the Australian Embassy in Vietnam and SNV in implementing the TRVC Project, as well as implementing many other projects to support people in the Mekong Delta and Dong Thap province. On the provincial side, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that relevant units and departments continue to coordinate with SNV to implement the TRVC project in Dong Thap, ensuring the completion of the signed goals by 2027.

SNV Vietnam Chief Representative, Ms. Christie Ann Getman, said that the Australian Government is committed to supporting Vietnam in its transition to green, sustainable agriculture. Ms. Christie Ann Getman highly appreciated the efforts of Dong Thap province in implementing advanced, environmentally friendly rice production models. At the same time, she expressed her desire to continue to cooperate closely with Dong Thap province and partners to successfully implement the Project.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate to successfully implement the Project, contributing to promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam's rice industry.

The project "Transforming the rice value chain to respond to climate change and sustainable development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC)" in Dong Thap started from the summer-autumn crop of 2024, with 5 businesses registered to participate with a total area of ​​2,422 hectares/1,061 farming households. The average profit margin is up to 60%.

In addition, through participating in the TRVC project, rice farmers apply advanced rice cultivation technology packages, ensuring a number of technical factors such as: not using fertilizers and pesticides outside the permitted list; increasing the use of organic fertilizers and biological fertilizers; widely applying alternating wet and dry irrigation techniques, straw is moved from the fields for reuse, processing and improving the efficiency of fertilizer use. Thereby contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing water pollution, reducing ecosystem pollution and conserving biodiversity and natural enemies...
