On January 31, Reuters quoted US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller as saying: "We believe that is the best way to bring lasting peace and security to Israel, to the Palestinians and to the region...".
According to Mr. Miller, there are many ways to achieve the above goal and Washington "looks at many different options, discusses it with partners in the region as well as other partners in the US government".
The US diplomatic official declined to provide details about the internal work of the US State Department related to the above issue, but revealed that this is a goal of the administration of President Joe Biden.
Earlier the same day, Axios reported that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken asked the US State Department to conduct an assessment and provide policy options on the possibility of Washington and the international community recognizing the State of Palestine immediately after the conflict in Gaza ends.
In the coming days, Mr. Blinken is expected to soon make his fifth trip to the Middle East since the conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7, 2023.
The US Secretary of State's schedule is still unclear, but Washington has repeatedly expressed its desire in recent months for Israel to soon end the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
On the same day, Aljazeera TV channel quoted information from the Qatari Foreign Ministry saying that, during his visit to the US, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed finding a "just and lasting solution for the Palestinian cause" during a meeting with White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington, DC.
Mr. Al Thani participated in several other meetings with members of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, discussing “ensuring a sustainable flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza.”
