Regarding the North-South high-speed railway project, Mr. Tran Dinh Long, Chairman of Hoa Phat Group, has just affirmed that he will commit to providing 6 million tons of steel of various types with international quality and at a more competitive price than imported goods.

The government is promoting the policy of developing the North-South high-speed railway system, the Vietnamese steel industry has a great opportunity to demonstrate its ability to meet domestic demand and reduce dependence on imported steel.
Hoa Phat has been researching and making steel rails for over 3 years.
"Steel King" Tran Dinh Long has just made a strong statement about his ability to supply steel for this important project. According to estimates from consulting units, the North-South high-speed railway project will need up to 6 million tons of various types of steel.
This is a huge volume that not every country is capable of meeting, especially with strict quality requirements and tight time schedules.
As the leading steel producer in Southeast Asia and in the world's top 50, Mr. Tran Dinh Long affirmed that Hoa Phat commits to four main points:
- Ensure steel volume as required;
- Maintain international quality standards;
- Meet delivery schedule;
- Competitive price, lower than imported steel.
Currently with a capacity of 8.5 million tons of steel per year, Hoa Phat is the largest steel supplier in Southeast Asia.
When the Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Complex project is completed in 2025, the group's crude steel production capacity will exceed 14 million tons/year, including 8.6 million tons of hot-rolled coil steel, one of the high-quality products serving high-tech industries such as mechanical engineering and construction.
In particular, Mr. Long emphasized that Hoa Phat is capable of producing high-speed railway rail steel, a complex product that requires strict technical standards.
According to Mr. Long, over the past three years, Hoa Phat has invested in research and development of rail steel lines, focusing on technical standards for high-speed railway systems.
In terms of technology, Mr. Long revealed that Hoa Phat will use advanced technology from the G7 group (including countries with developed technology such as the UK, US, Japan, etc.) to ensure products meet the highest standards.
Focus on developing products for high-speed railways
Previously, speaking with Tuoi Tre newspaper, Mr. Tran Dinh Long emphasized that building a high-speed railway is difficult and expensive, but Hoa Phat is determined to do it because of its pride as a Vietnamese enterprise with enough capacity and technological potential to participate in major national projects.
It is expected that by 2028, Hoa Phat will complete rail steel products and be ready to participate in bidding to supply for the North-South high-speed railway project.
According to Professor Bui Xuan Phong, former chairman of the Vietnam Railway Economics and Transport Association, the possibility of Hoa Phat or any Vietnamese enterprise participating in high-speed railway construction is "very supportable".
"We have a policy of promoting localization and encouraging private enterprises to develop. There is no reason not to support it," said Mr. Phong.
In early October 2024, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Danh Huy affirmed that the North-South high-speed railway project will be implemented using the national budget, limiting constraints from foreign technology.
"If foreign contractors participate, the prerequisite is to use domestically produced goods and services, creating conditions for domestic enterprises to participate with a construction value of up to 34 billion USD," said Mr. Huy.
