Major holidays are often the time to witness the shift of mobile subscribers between localities, along with a large number of subscribers flocking to a number of locations where entertainment activities and festivals take place.
According to Viettel, the network operator expects about 2.7 million subscribers (equivalent to 4.3% of total subscribers) to switch during the National Day holiday on September 2 this year, equivalent to the same period last year.
Viettel estimates that the provinces with the most subscribers moving in are Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh. On the other hand, the provinces with the most subscribers moving out of their place of residence are expected to be Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Bac Ninh.
These are all provinces with many subscribers traveling in and out during major holidays of the year such as April 30, May 1, and Lunar New Year. However, Viettel representative said that the total number of subscribers traveling during the September 2 holiday in these provinces is only 35% to 40% of the total number of subscribers traveling during the Lunar New Year.
For some key tourism provinces such as Ba Ria Vung Tau and Lao Cai, due to their proximity to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, these localities have 3-4 times more subscribers traveling back than during Lunar New Year.
When asked about the demand of mobile users during the September 2nd holiday this year, Viettel said that the total network traffic was at the same level as normal days. At festival and event locations (fireworks, music venues...) where many people gather, the network traffic increased from 3 to 10 times compared to normal days.
Speaking with VietNamNet, a representative of VNPT informed that the unit has reviewed and worked with localities to forecast in advance the locations where customers will gather, the locations of festivals and major events, in order to have plans to add field broadcasting stations and mobile broadcasting vehicles to crowded places.
According to VNPT's estimates, in terms of traffic, it is expected that during the 4-day holiday, mobile data consumption will increase by about 15% compared to normal days, with no large fluctuations between provinces and cities. VNPT said that traffic consumption trends will have a local spike of 50% to 100% at major tourist destinations.
“ VNPT has assessed and forecasted in advance, prepared equipment, network resources, standby resources, added a number of mobile stations, arranged adequate human resources and means, and is ready to deploy sudden information requests ,” the network representative shared.
For MobiFone, in key areas where festivals and large crowds take place, this network operator has conducted surveys, completed the implementation of measurement and assessment of coverage quality, installed additional mobile stations, increased coverage, and expanded resources for 4G stations to ensure customer needs.
All devices on the MobiFone network have been tested to ensure high backup configuration to avoid incidents, ready for increased customer demand compared to normal days.
MobiFone has made detailed plans, completed the assignment of operating schedules, information rescue schedules, and shifts to ensure timely reception and handling of incidents, and increased the number of experienced technical staff to monitor transmission lines and at switchboards. In addition, during the holidays, MobiFone has fully deployed staff to handle and support customers.
