Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met and praised the Vietnam Women's Football Team

On the afternoon of August 15, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met and commended the Vietnam National Women's Football Team participating in the 2023 Women's World Cup Finals.

Also attending were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha; Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung; leaders of the Department of Physical Training and Sports, Vietnam Football Federation; especially the full coaching staff and players of the Vietnam National Women's Football Team.

At the 2023 World Cup Finals, the Vietnam Women's Football Team met the world's top teams including the United States, Portugal, and the Netherlands and lost with scores of 0-3, 0-2, and 0-7 respectively.

At the meeting, Coach Mai Duc Chung and player Huynh Nhu, representing the female players, expressed their honor; sincerely thanked the leaders of the Party, State, and Prime Minister for their attention, guidance, and creation of conditions for the development of the Women's Football Team; and thanked the attention, support, and encouragement of millions of fans at home and abroad for the Team.

The Vietnamese Women's Football Team said they were very proud to be present at the Women's World Cup Finals for the first time. Despite the gap with other teams, the whole team played with determination and courage; learning many valuable lessons. The team promised the Prime Minister that they would continue to train hard and be more determined to achieve higher achievements, first of all at the upcoming 19th ASIAD in China.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated coach Mai Duc Chung, the coaching staff and the Vietnamese "diamond girls" on finishing their competition at the 2023 World Cup, returning to the warm welcome of a large number of domestic fans; congratulated the team on competing for the first time at the biggest festival of women's football in the world, with a noble sportsmanship, for the flag and the colors, maintaining their will, determination, solidarity, demonstrating their aspirations and high professional efforts to surpass themselves; at the same time, maintaining the spirit of learning, learning, and never giving up.

According to the Prime Minister, our country has just emerged from war not long ago, is a developing country, the economy is in transition, so there are still many difficulties. However, with the will, courage, efforts, determination of the entire Party, the entire political system, the entire people, the entire army, the business community and the support of international friends, "Our country has never had the foundation, potential, position and international prestige as it does today". In particular, Vietnamese sports, Vietnamese football, have also made many great strides.

Reviewing the achievements of the Vietnam National Women's Football Team such as: being the team that won the most SEA Games, with 8 SEA Games championships, reaching the quarterfinals at the Asian Games and the final qualifying round of the 2020 Olympics and recently reaching the 2023 Women's World Cup Finals, the Prime Minister said that this is an important milestone, marking remarkable development and putting Vietnamese women's football on the list of the best teams in the world.

“After going through very difficult times, our country's women's football has made steady progress, gradually narrowing the gap, gradually approaching and competing on equal terms with the world's leading teams, leaving a deep impression in the hearts of domestic and international audiences,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

The Prime Minister expressed his pride and emotion when the Vietnamese National Flag and National Anthem were raised and played for the first time at a Women's World Cup; admired the small girls who competed steadfastly, with all their heart, and did not retreat against opponents who were superior in terms of physique, physical strength and competition experience; and deeply felt the feelings, trust, enthusiastic support, sympathy and sharing that fans at home and in New Zealand have recently given to the Team.

The Prime Minister commended and highly appreciated the competitive spirit, solidarity, determination, dedication and strong aspiration of the Head Coach, the Coaching Board and the entire Vietnam Women's National Football Team; acknowledged and welcomed the attention, investment and facilitation of ministries, branches, agencies and units; of the Coaching Board, officers, doctors and nurses; the support of families and relatives; the support of the business community; and especially the love and enthusiastic support of fans for the team.

"The love for football of Vietnamese people is huge. Developing football, and women's football in particular, is our determination and there is still much potential for development," the Prime Minister affirmed.

In order for women's football to develop in both breadth and depth, both popular and professional, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Physical Education and Sports to continue reviewing, strengthening the development and completion of appropriate and synchronous policies to develop women's football, focusing on developing the women's football movement in schools with the active role of the Ministry of Education and Training; having a long-term strategy for sustainable development of women's football and in the process of implementing specific activities.

The Vietnam Football Federation carefully evaluates and analyzes the preparation and competition process at the recent World Cup and in recent years to continue to consolidate and enhance strengths, proactively and gradually overcome limitations; enhance training and coaching; allocate resources reasonably for the development of women's football; orient clubs and localities, build or propose to competent authorities strategic and synchronous solutions.

The Head of Government requested localities, especially those with strong movements, to continue to pay attention, invest, improve treatment regimes, focus on timely and appropriate forms of honor and reward, and especially the long-term development of women's football, promptly resolve or propose solutions to difficulties and problems.

Relevant ministries, branches and localities pay attention to the material and spiritual life of athletes when they retire, creating the best conditions for players to have peace of mind in life.

In the immediate future, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Physical Training and Sports, the Vietnam Football Federation will coordinate with relevant agencies to create the best conditions for athletes, sports delegations in general and female players in particular to best demonstrate their capacity, noble sportsmanship, will, determination and will of the Vietnam Sports Delegation, in the immediate future to participate in the upcoming 19th Asian Games - ASIAD in China.

Emphasizing that the National Women's Football Team is worthy of participating in the 2023 World Cup, the Prime Minister said that the victory is meaningful, but more important is the fighting spirit, the recognition and evaluation of the world on the remarkable growth of Vietnamese women's football.

With the spirit of "not being arrogant in victory, not being discouraged in defeat", the more difficult and challenging the more united we must be, the more pressured we must be, the more we strive to rise up, the Prime Minister believes that the Team will always maintain its faith and aspirations, promote the highest traditions of the descendants of Ba Trung and Ba Trieu, always be smart, beautiful, graceful girls but extremely enthusiastic, strong, and brave; always make the highest effort in training, the highest determination in competition, uphold the spirit of solidarity, discipline, order, and compliance with technical and tactical techniques, and reap even more worthy achievements in the future.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Government and the Prime Minister always care about, support and request ministries, branches, localities and the whole society to join hands and contribute to the development of women's football and football in general, worthy of the trust and love of fans and the Vietnamese people.
