Farewell to Winter, also known as Maslenitsa Week, is a long-standing Russian folk tradition.
The "Farewell to Winter" (Maslenitsa) festival is a very old traditional cultural feature of the Russian people. Every year, at the end of February and the beginning of March, the festival is held throughout Russia to bid farewell to the cold winter and welcome the return of a new spring full of vitality.
Many activities take place during the Maslenitsa festival, everyone happily participates in folk games.
At the festival, Russian citizens working and living in Da Nang city and neighboring areas; along with a large number of Da Nang city residents; domestic and foreign tourists enjoyed Russian songs and dances. At the same time, they experienced typical Russian cuisine, how to make Russian pancakes and Russian pancake decoration contest; and experienced folk games.
In particular, everyone participates in burning a straw effigy symbolizing the Winter god Maslenitsa with the wish to burn away all sadness and bad luck, to dispel the cold and let the warm, peaceful spring return soon.
Introducing the unique Russian culinary culture to the people of Da Nang city
According to Ms. Phan Thi Thuy, President of the Vietnam - Russia Friendship Association of Da Nang City, the "Farewell to Winter" Festival is the first activity in a series of activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation (January 30, 1950 - January 30, 2025) in Da Nang City. Through this festival, the people of Vietnam and the Russian Federation will understand each other better, contributing to continuously strengthening the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.
