Every weekday from Monday to Saturday, in a small house deep in an alley on Hoang Dieu Street (Hai Chau District), the free Literature class for disadvantaged students taught by Ms. Pham Thi Kim Cuong (born in 1977, residing in Hoa Thuan Dong Ward, Hai Chau District) can be heard. For the past 25 years, Ms. Cuong has devoted herself to imparting knowledge to the students.

Since 1998, Ms. Pham Thi Kim Cuong, a Literature teacher at Kim Dong Secondary School (Hai Chau District), has organized free classes for children in difficult circumstances. Her joy is seeing students learn to read and understand literary works. Ms. Cuong shared: “In the past, I was also a poor student, and teachers taught me for free. Therefore, when I became a teacher, I also wanted to be able to help many other disadvantaged students. Therefore, teaching charity classes like this has always been my greatest wish in life.”

Having been taught for free by Ms. Cuong, TAT (18 years old), a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City) confided: “I studied with Ms. Cuong from grade 6 to grade 9. Ms. Cuong teaches very well and analyzes works very carefully. Besides, she also understands student psychology very well and helps me a lot throughout the learning process.”

Her passion for teaching and her desire to contribute to the community have led Ms. Pham Thi Kim Cuong to devote her time and effort to maintaining free classes for disadvantaged students from 11 to 15 years old for the past 25 years. Ms. Cuong's wish is to expand her classes to help more children, but her house is too small. So she met teachers who shared the same desire to help students, and together they made a request to the People's Committee of Hoa Thuan Dong Ward to support teaching space.

Thanks to that, a zero-cost class called “Wings of Dreams” for 6th grade students with difficult circumstances in Hoa Thuan Dong Ward (Hai Chau District) was launched. The class is scheduled to open on August 20 at two locations: Hoa Thuan Dong Ward Community Cultural Activity House (Hai Chau District) and Trung Tam Community Learning Center. In this class, students will learn cultural subjects including: Literature, Math, English taught by qualified teachers from junior high schools, high schools, and colleges. It is known that the class will have about 20 students attending in the morning from 7:00 to 11:00 every Thursday and Sunday.

Also participating in teaching Math for the zero-dong class, Ms. Trinh Thi Nhu Quynh, a Math teacher at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, said: “Knowing that Ms. Cuong organized a free class for disadvantaged students, I voluntarily registered to participate with the hope of imparting more knowledge to the students. Hopefully, in addition to studying, this class can help students interact and have a more useful playground.”

Similarly, Ms. Tran Thi Viet Nga, a lecturer at Da Nang Vocational College, who teaches English at the zero-cost class, shared: “When I heard Ms. Cuong talk about opening a class, out of compassion for disadvantaged students, I decided to join in to help. This is a meaningful work, contributing to the development of the community.”

According to Ms. Pham Thi Kim Cuong, my greatest happiness is seeing students progress day by day. This is the most precious thing I have. Many generations of students have become famous and useful people for society, which is the motivation for me to try my best in this job. Hopefully, in the future, the zero-dong class "Wings of Dreams" will help many more disadvantaged students.
