The 54th WEF, taking place from January 15 to 19 in Davos (Switzerland) with the theme "Rebuilding Trust", is the largest conference since the Covid-19 pandemic, with the participation of the most leaders of countries and international organizations ever. According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to have a continuous program of activities at WEF Davos this year, including: attending and speaking at important discussion sessions, including some special sessions dedicated to Vietnam; chairing many seminars with leaders of leading corporations; bilateral meetings with leaders of countries, international organizations and businesses.
Since Vietnam and WEF established relations in 1989, cooperation between Vietnam and WEF has continuously developed in many fields. This year is the 5th time Vietnam has attended the WEF Davos Annual Meeting at the Prime Minister level (2007, 2010, 2017, 2019, 2024), other years it usually attends at the Deputy Prime Minister level.
Vietnam has also attended the WEF ASEAN Conference (before 2016, it was WEF East Asia) at the Prime Minister level four times (2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017).
"The fact that Vietnam is one of the nine partners proposed by WEF to coordinate in organizing a national strategic dialogue with WEF and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is one of the eight leaders of countries having a separate dialogue with WEF demonstrates the interest, recognition and appreciation of WEF as well as multinational corporations for Vietnam's role, international position, achievements and development vision," said Ms. Hang. According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's first working trip to WEF is important in many aspects. It is a valuable opportunity to grasp the world's thinking, ideas, development models, governance models and development trends. It is an ideal time for Vietnam to share, inform and promote its achievements, orientations, national development strategies, policies and foreign policies; conveying a strong message about a dynamic, innovative Vietnam, an attractive investment destination for global corporations. The Prime Minister’s participation at the 54th WEF will continue to affirm Vietnam’s responsible and effective contributions to peace, development and issues of common concern; thereby further enhancing the country’s position and prestige in the international arena, especially with the global business community.
At the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, right after finishing his attendance at the WEF Conference in Davos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife will officially visit Hungary and Romania. This is the first delegation exchange at the Prime Minister level between Vietnam and Hungary in the past 7 years and with Romania in the past 5 years.
Hungary and Romania are two of the first 10 countries in the world to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam after Vietnam gained independence. Hungary and Romania have also actively supported Vietnam in the Vietnam-EU comprehensive partnership and cooperation, especially in the process of negotiating, signing and ratifying the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement ( EVIPA).
