Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc attended, congratulated and awarded the UNESCO Global Learning City Certificate to Ho Chi Minh City.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc presented the UNESCO Global Learning City Certificate to Ms. Nguyen Thi Le - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council expressed her joy when Ho Chi Minh City became an official member of the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le emphasized: This is an honor, the result of our process of focusing on building a lifelong learning environment for the people of the City; demonstrating the world's recognition of the policies, commitments and efforts of Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular in ensuring quality, equitable and comprehensive education, promoting lifelong learning opportunities for everyone, contributing to enhancing the position of Vietnam's education in the international arena.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le said that up to now, Ho Chi Minh City has more than 1.6 million families achieving the title of "Learning Family"; 1,012 clans achieving the title of "Learning Clan" and more than 10,300 people recognized as "Learning Citizen".
In recent times, Ho Chi Minh City has specifically implemented the Party and State’s guidelines and policies on international integration, encouraging learning and talent, building a learning society, improving the quality of education and training human resources. Along with that, many projects and programs have been implemented to promote cooperation and knowledge sharing between schools, businesses, organizations and the community.
Ho Chi Minh City is also constantly improving and innovating in the field of education, from kindergarten to university, from school to community; implementing synchronously from improving infrastructure to implementing diverse learning programs, suitable for all ages and learning needs of the people. All of this not only helps improve the quality of education, but also creates opportunities for everyone to learn for life, to learn regularly.

“With the cooperation and support from UNESCO and other members of the network, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to develop and grow strongly, becoming a leading educational center in the region and achieving prestige and high rankings in the world's assessments and recognition.
As a member of the Global Learning Cities Network, Ho Chi Minh City will make continuous efforts to ensure that all citizens have opportunities to learn and develop; commit to continue to cooperate closely with other members of the Global Learning Cities Network to share experiences, learn and build a better learning environment for everyone,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Le affirmed.
Also at the ceremony, Mr. Duong Anh Duc - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee launched the implementation of the Action Program to build "UNESCO Global Learning City for the period 2024-2030" in Ho Chi Minh City.
Accordingly, Mr. Duong Anh Duc requested the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City together with departments, branches, sectors and organizations to continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the Party and State's policies and guidelines on education, training, encouraging learning, encouraging talents, building a learning society and a learning city. The work of building a learning city must be widely implemented throughout the political system and among the people.
In addition, the implementation of building a learning city must be associated with the implementation of the Project "Building a learning society in the 2021-2030 period" and the Emulation Movement "The whole country builds a learning society, promoting lifelong learning in the 2023-2030 period"; implemented effectively, substantially, meeting practical requirements, suitable to the situation of the City.
Regularly inspect and monitor the implementation; periodically review and summarize to promptly commend and reward advanced models, promote and share good initiatives and experiences, replicate models and creative methods in building a learning city, etc.
