The clash between Arsenal and Liverpool in round 23 of the Premier League added to the excitement of the title race. Arsenal defeated the top team to close the gap between the two teams to just 2 points, but the happiest team was Man City.

The audience at Emirates Stadium witnessed high-paced action from the very first minutes of the match. Arsenal dominated the first half. Although the ball possession rate of the two teams was not significantly different, even Liverpool was slightly better, Arsenal was the team with more sharp attacks.

The home team opened the scoring in the 14th minute after a lightning-fast combination play with only four players touching the ball on the opposing pitch. Kai Havertz failed to beat the Liverpool goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation but Bukayo Saka seized the opportunity to shoot into an empty net.

Arsenal controlled the game well. Liverpool only had 3 shots in the first half, none of them on target, but surprisingly they still scored. In a moment of miscommunication between the Arsenal centre-back and goalkeeper, Luis Diaz's touch led to Gabriel Magalhaes scoring an own goal.

Entering the second half with the score tied at 1-1, Arsenal and Liverpool created an attractive duel at the beginning of the second half. The turning point of the match was once again created by individual mistakes. In the 67th minute, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker rushed out of the penalty area but missed the ball. Gabriel Martinelli seized the opportunity to shoot into the empty net, putting Arsenal ahead.

Liverpool went all out in the final 30 minutes of the game. The visitors had over 70% possession in the final stages of the game, but they rarely posed a clear threat to the home team's goal. Meanwhile, Liverpool's defensive elements continued to play poorly.

Ibrahima Konate received a second yellow card in the 88th minute and was sent off, leaving Liverpool with 10 men. Just three minutes later, goalkeeper Alisson let his guard down again, allowing Leandro Trossard to nutmeg from a tight angle, sealing a 3-1 win for Arsenal.

Winning 3 points at home, Arsenal narrowed the gap with Liverpool to only 2 points. However, the team that benefited the most was Man City. The defending champions are in third place, 5 points behind Liverpool but still have 2 games left to play. If Man City win 6 points from these 2 matches, they will top the table.

Result: Arsenal 3-1 Liverpool
