Notably, goalkeeper Ernando Ari said that when he stepped up to take the penalty, he felt uncomfortable and lacked confidence.
Even in previous training sessions, he was rarely trained in penalty kick skills by the U23 Indonesia coaching staff.
“It is true that I have taken penalties in training and the ball has always gone into the net. But in reality, it is very different when playing.
Coach Shin called me and at that time I just accepted. I had no other choice at that time," said the U23 Indonesia goalkeeper.
In the final match of U23 Southeast Asia 2023, goalkeeper Ernando Ari played very impressively.
He continuously saved his team and even successfully blocked Quoc Viet's penalty.
That's why, before stepping up to the penalty spot, Ernando Ari was exhausted.
“I was nervous, my legs were shaking, my mind was in turmoil because it was the decisive kick. It was a surprise when I was appointed.
I didn't do well and wasn't ready to take that kick. I was also affected by physical exhaustion, because we played from the group stage to the final, it was very tough.
The players only had 1 or 2 days off so we didn’t have enough time to recover. We played 120 minutes in the final and our spirit was down at times,” Ernando Ari said.
In recent days, the Indonesian football community has been in turmoil after losing to U23 Vietnam in the final match of the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
