In recent times, Quang Tri town has actively implemented many solutions to improve the productivity and quality of forests in the area. Thereby, contributing to sustainable forestry development associated with economic and social development and environmental protection, ecological balance, job creation, and income improvement for people participating in forest protection and development activities.

To carry out the work of forest management, protection and development; forestry programs and projects for the period of 2021-2025, the Town People's Committee advised the Quang Tri Town Party Committee to issue a plan to implement Directive No. 13-CT/TW, dated January 12, 2017 of the Central Party Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in forest management, protection and development; organize the assessment of the results of forest management, protection and fire prevention and fighting; develop plans and tasks for the following year. At the same time, develop and implement a forest fire prevention and fighting plan for the period of 2021-2025 and a plan to combat and prevent violations of the Forestry Law.
Issue documents to direct the strengthening of forest management, protection and development. Allocate funds to support the Forest Protection Department in performing tasks related to forest management, protection and forest fire prevention and fighting in the area. Establish and regularly improve the steering committee for the sustainable forestry development program for the period 2021-2025.
The Forest Protection Department, agencies, units, and People's Committees of wards and communes shall properly implement the coordination regulations to strengthen forest patrol and inspection work, prevent people from illegally encroaching on forest land for afforestation; prevent and strictly handle illegal exploitation, transportation, trading, and processing of forest products; organize on-duty patrols and forest protection patrols, and forest fire prevention and fighting.
Every year, the Town People's Committee directs the Forest Protection Department to develop a plan and organize inspections of commercial forest product processing establishments. From 2021-2025, 18 forest product processing and trading establishments were inspected; in coordination with forest owners and People's Committees of wards and communes, 152 forest protection patrols were organized with 330 participants.
As a result, 4 violations were detected and arrested, 0.491m3 of forest products were seized, and an administrative fine of 3,000,000 VND was imposed. To improve forest quality, the Town People's Committee issued a plan to develop large-scale timber plantation forests in Quang Tri Town for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2035. At the same time, it directed specialized agencies to coordinate with the People's Committees of wards and communes to implement forest development activities using various capital sources. In the period 2021-2025, about 1,546.3 hectares of acacia plantation forests were planted in the town.
The Forest Protection Department supervises the exploitation area of 1,128.7 hectares, the exploitation output is 119,099 m3 ; pine resin exploitation is 308.6 tons. Supervises the import and export of wood from wood chip and laminate factories. Up to now, in the area, there are 2 units participating and being granted forest certificates: the Management Board of Protective Forests of Thach Han River Basin 5 has been assessed and granted FSC certificate with an area of 310.5 hectares and Trieu Hai Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. has been assessed and granted forest certificate according to VFCS standards with an area of 1,684.2 hectares.
The Inter-district Agricultural Extension Station actively coordinated with wards, communes and forest owners to review and propose the construction of a pilot model for planting large timber forests associated with forest certification. The total mobilized budget for the implementation of scattered tree planting in the period 2021-2024 is more than 300 million VND, with 87,005 scattered trees of all kinds (84,333 acacia trees, 2,672 shade trees of all kinds).
Thanks to the attention and support of superiors, the close direction of the Town People's Committee, the timely coordination between relevant agencies and units, local authorities and the efforts of forest owners, the forestry targets and tasks basically achieved and exceeded the set plan.
In the period of 2021-2025, the annual forest coverage rate in the town will reach 58.4%; the average concentrated forest planting area will be 400 ha/year; the output of timber exploitation from planted forests will reach over 35,700 m3. Forest planting and forest care will be done on time; the quality of forestry seedlings will be increasingly strictly controlled; forest productivity and output will be improved, contributing to maintaining forest cover. The increasingly diverse forest service industry has created jobs and increased income for organizations and individuals, contributing to economic development and ensuring security and order in the area.
In the coming time, Quang Tri town will promote propaganda and education in many forms to raise awareness of all classes of people about the role, effects, value of forests, the significance of planting trees and afforestation; legal regulations on forest protection and development, contributing to the sustainable protection of the ecological environment. Integrate with forestry programs and projects that are being and will be implemented in the area to focus on developing large timber plantations.
Focus on forest fire prevention and control during the dry season; make efforts to combat forest encroachment based on the viewpoint of protecting forests at the root, identifying key areas for forest protection, and preventing hot spots in the area. Organize training on criteria and standards for sustainable forest management certification and grant forest certificates to agricultural extension officers, local forest rangers, forestry officers and forest owners for implementation.
Promote cooperation with non-governmental organizations and forest certification organizations to implement forest certification for large timber plantations to ensure the plan. Mobilize all resources to support, invest in construction, and provide technical assistance for sustainable forest management and forest certification for large timber plantations, meeting the requirements of the world market and increasing the added value of the forestry industry.
