According to the leaders of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Typhoon Yagi has disrupted the school's plans for opening ceremony and welcoming new students this year.

Although understanding the regret of the cancellation of an annual warm event, the school quickly replaced it with the warmth of humanity, with thoughtful greetings and timely donations for "national love and compatriotism" as called for by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The school canceled the opening ceremony and used the organization's budget to send 200 million VND to flood victims through the account of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee.

In addition, 348 million VND went to 116 students of the school who were in difficulty due to storms and floods, more than 1 billion VND was sponsored by partners for students on the occasion of the new school year 2024-2025 and will continue to be considered and granted by the school to students with excellent achievements and policy beneficiaries with difficult circumstances in the coming time.

In his letter congratulating the new school year, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, said he thanked and sympathized with the students who had worked hard to prepare the plan to welcome new students over the past week.

Maybe this plan will be moved to a more suitable time, when the lecture hall atmosphere is more familiar to new students.

In recent days, many universities such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, etc., have also launched fundraising campaigns to support flood victims in the northern provinces suffering from the consequences of storm No. 3.

Although the opening ceremony program has been carefully prepared and almost completed, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) decided not to hold the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year on the morning of September 27 as planned.

On September 12, during the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture organized a donation to support people in the North to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3.

During the ceremony, delegates, lecturers and many students joined hands to contribute and share difficulties with people in areas affected by natural disasters.

On September 18, Foreign Trade University held the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year, commending the top students in the 2024 entrance exam and outstanding students in the 2023-2024 school year.

At the opening ceremony, after the flag-raising ceremony and singing the national anthem, staff, lecturers and students took a minute to remember the soldiers and people who died due to the impact of storm No. 3 (storm Yagi).

The most different thing this year is that instead of congratulatory flower baskets, the school has a QR code of the Central Relief Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front so that delegates, teachers and students can proactively contribute to help people in localities that have suffered severe consequences of natural disasters and floods.

Previously, Foreign Trade University sent a message to partners and publicly posted information about the opening ceremony not accepting flowers.

Instead, Foreign Trade University hopes that the congratulations of individuals, organizations, businesses, and partners can be converted into contributions to support movements/funds to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, floods as well as individuals/households in difficult circumstances in general, to make the ceremony more meaningful.
