6,688 sandstone blocks form a 36m high statue
The Maitreya Buddha statue on the top of Ba Den Mountain is 36m high, 45m wide, has a surface area of 4,651m 2 , and weighs 5,112 tons. The giant Maitreya Bodhisattva is shaped in a sitting position, with a gentle face, a joyful smile, a plump figure, and a rosary around his neck. Compared to the largest Maitreya Buddha statues in the world made of stone, the Maitreya Bodhisattva statue on Ba Den Mountain is the largest sandstone Maitreya Buddha statue in the world.

What is special is that the statue was created in a way never seen before in Vietnam: assembled from 6,688 natural sandstone stones inspired by terraced fields. Each sandstone stone was carefully selected, checked for color, grain, and exact size, then sculpted according to the design. The sandstone stones were stacked on top of each other in 54 layers, each stone has an average length of 100-120cm, an average height of 70cm, and a thickness of 50cm. The total volume of sandstone used to assemble the statue is 2,025m 3 .
“In the weather conditions on the mountain top, there are often strong winds and dense fog, each step in the process of building and crafting the statue is extremely complicated. In particular, positioning the statue shell and installing the stone is the most complicated step” - a representative of Sun World Ba Den Mountain Tourist Area shared.
The statue of Bodhisattva Maitreya helps complete the spiritual cultural complex on top of Ba Mountain.
The Maitreya Buddha statue sits on a waterfall, eyes facing the East where the sun rises as if looking towards the future, overlooking the entire Southern Delta and the vast Dau Tieng Lake. Symbolizing joy, peace and happiness, from above, Maitreya Buddha smiles joyfully as if bestowing blessings, joy and eternal happiness to all living beings.
Wishing Bridge - the iconic spiritual bridge
When visiting the Maitreya Bodhisattva statue on Ba Den Mountain, visitors can also set foot on the Wishing Bridge - the first symbolic spiritual bridge in Vietnam. This special bridge is semicircular, 90m long, 15m wide, paved with golden metallic glazed tiles creating cloud patterns, symbolizing happiness and peace. The shape of the Wishing Bridge also reminds of the joyful, carefree smile of Maitreya Bodhisattva.
The path leading visitors down to Cau Tuong Bridge is also an extremely unique and interesting experience as it is designed like a natural cave, with enchanting and mysterious curves.
Wishing Bridge promises to be a particularly attractive tourist destination in the near future.
Surrounding the Maitreya Bodhisattva statue, the bridge acts as a connecting bridge, leading all things and people to the mysterious spiritual world, closer to Maitreya Bodhisattva, feeling the joyful energy, his boundless compassion and sincerely turning to Buddha, praying for peace and luck. The bridge is also like a soft silk strip, stretching out into the floating clouds so that visitors from all directions can let go of their worries, devote their minds to fully enjoying the scenery of the poetic green Ba Den mountain, the immense Dau Tieng lake in the distance and the panoramic view of the prosperous and peaceful Tay Ninh city from the highest mountain in the South.
Unprecedented water music show in Vietnam
Behind and surrounding the Maitreya Bodhisattva statue is a giant artificial waterfall pouring down from above onto the steps around the statue, creating a majestic and magical scene on top of Ba Den Mountain. With a height of 35m, this is considered the highest artificial waterfall in Asia.
In particular, the waterfall is combined with a fountain system that uses technology to create unique waves, along with many impressive light strips, creating a water music show with a meditative color. With the world's largest sandstone statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva at the center, the water music show is a magical combination of sound, light, laser, water and actors performing dances with a strong spiritual and cultural color.
Behind and surrounding the Maitreya Bodhisattva statue is a giant artificial waterfall 35m high.
Modern equipment and the latest technology never before applied in Vietnam will be used in this water music show such as laser drawing machines, 3D projectors, laser block making machines, or moving head lights combined with impressive pattern effects that repeat endlessly. Combined with the water curtain is a system of lights, spray troughs, electromagnetic waves and giant nozzles using the world's leading advanced technology.
