Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announces Madrid's decision on Palestine
Spain has opened the chain of recognition of the European trio of countries on the State of Palestine with the announcement from Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares at a press conference in Madrid on May 28, according to AFP.
Speaking on national television just before the cabinet meeting, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez affirmed that recognition is the only way to implement a solution towards a peaceful future for the Middle East: a Palestinian State coexisting with the State of Israel in peace and security.

Next, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide announced that his country officially recognized Palestine as a state, calling it an important milestone in relations between Norway and Palestine.
"The international community must increase political and economic support for Palestine, and continue to implement the two-state solution," he added.
Ireland then issued a similar statement, urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "listen to the world and stop the humanitarian disaster we are witnessing in Gaza".
Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said his country was working with Spain and Norway to "keep the miracle of peace going".
On the same day, Spanish Foreign Minister Albares said that the three governments of Spain, Ireland and Norway will give a joint response to provocative moves from Israel after the three countries recognized the State of Palestine.
To date, 145 out of 193 United Nations member states have recognized the status of the State of Palestine.
In April, the United States, an ally of Israel, used its veto power in the United Nations Security Council to block a Palestinian bid to become a full member of the United Nations.
