On July 14, under the influence of a tropical depression, Phu Quoc city (Kien Giang province) recorded prolonged heavy rain, causing flooding in some places, of which Cua Duong commune was the most severely affected area.
Phu Quoc City Police mobilized 70 officers and soldiers along with equipment and vehicles to urgently coordinate with local authorities of Cua Duong commune to evacuate and rescue people and flooded properties to safety.
Upon receiving news that pregnant woman Nguyen Thuy Kieu (26 years old) was trapped in deep floodwater, the police force quickly arrived at the scene and took her to the medical center to 'give birth'.
Kien Giang Maritime Port Authority announced that from July 13, all ferry routes from the mainland to Phu Quoc and Nam Du islands and vice versa will be temporarily suspended due to bad weather. As of the afternoon of July 14, there has been no new announcement regarding the resumption of ferry operations.
Mr. Ho Dac Thuan - Director of Phu Quoc City's Culture, Sports and Broadcasting Center said that the suspension of ferry and boat routes for the past two days has left a small number of tourists stranded on the island.
“In addition to speedboats, tourists can arrive and depart Phu Quoc by air, which is still operating normally. The unit is closely monitoring the situation and will promptly come up with support plans if tourists encounter difficulties,” Mr. Thuan shared.
According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Station of Kien Giang province, the sea area of Rach Gia - Phu Quoc and Tho Chau will have rain in many places. West - Southwest wind level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7-8; waves 0.75-2.5m high.
