Recognizing Rach Gia City as a Type I urban area.

(NLĐO) - The recognition of Rach Gia City as a Class I urban area is an important milestone in its development journey.

On the afternoon of March 15th, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province held a ceremony to announce Decision No. 195/QD-TTg dated January 21, 2025, of the Prime Minister recognizing Rach Gia city as a type I urban area directly under Kien Giang province.

Speaking at the ceremony, according to VNA, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van emphasized that Rach Gia being recognized as a Class I city is not the final destination but an important milestone on its development journey.

The Ministry of Construction hopes that Rach Gia will continue to uphold its glorious traditions, build and develop the city into a civilized, modern, and sustainable urban center; continue to invest in the construction of a modern and synchronized transportation, electricity, water, and public utility system; and urgently implement the Rach Gia City urban development program until 2040…

According to Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province, the Rach Gia city government prioritizes focusing resources on investing in a synchronous and modern technical and social infrastructure system towards a smart and sustainable city, strengthening architectural and landscape management in a civilized and modern direction; and prioritizing the development of high-quality service industries, tourism, and marine economy .

Simultaneously, strengthen land management, planning management, maintain good urban order and environmental sanitation, and strictly handle violations…

On this occasion, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province awarded Certificates of Commendation to many collectives and individuals who have achieved outstanding results in performing their duties, leading to Rach Gia City being recognized as a Type I urban area.

After 10 years of construction and development since being recognized as a type II urban area (in 2014), Rach Gia City has achieved many important accomplishments in the fields of politics, economics, culture, society, security, and national defense, especially in meeting the criteria for a type I urban area.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Rach Gia City, Bui Phuoc Chau, affirmed that the infrastructure of Rach Gia City is currently being invested in and built synchronously, linked with urban beautification, creating a new appearance in a modern and harmonious direction, promoting comprehensive socio-economic development.
