Vietnam: Attractive healthcare market
Speaking at the Business Forum on Healthcare Innovation held on March 17 in Ho Chi Minh City, Deputy Ambassador of the UK to Vietnam, Mr. Marcus Winsley, emphasized: "The UK and Vietnam have a long history of cooperation in the field of healthcare. As Vietnam accelerates digital transformation and modernizes its healthcare system, the UK is ready to share its experience, medical technology and human resource training."
Vietnam is becoming one of the most attractive healthcare markets in Southeast Asia, attracting the attention of many organizations and medical corporations from the UK. Enterprises such as TPP, Blüm Health, Envisionit Deep AI are actively cooperating with the Vietnamese Ministry of Health in electronic medical record projects, applying artificial intelligence (AI) to diagnosis, and developing smart healthcare systems.
UK healthcare businesses and organisations have been expanding their cooperation with Vietnam to improve the quality of healthcare services, promote scientific research and increase access to healthcare for people.
Over the years, Vietnam has attracted large investments from global pharmaceutical and medical technology corporations. One typical example is AstraZeneca, a British pharmaceutical corporation, which has committed to invest 310 million USD in Vietnam's healthcare system in the period of 2020-2025. This investment focuses on pharmaceutical research and development, disease prevention and control, and expanding cooperation in training medical human resources.
In addition, the UK also supports Vietnam through professional training programmes, clinical research collaboration and technology transfer for pharmaceutical production. Organizations such as Alder Hey Children's Hospital, the University of Oxford's Nuffield Department of Medicine and the Oxford Institute for Biomedical Research are working with Vietnamese hospitals and universities to improve the quality of training and update advanced treatment methods.

Digital transformation is one of the important strategies of the Vietnamese healthcare sector, with the goal that by 2030, 100% of central hospitals and at least 70% of provincial and district hospitals will comprehensively apply digital technology.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Vinh Chau, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, cooperation between Vietnam and the UK not only helps improve the quality of health care but also creates momentum to promote innovation in the field of digital health, especially hospital management, optimizing treatment processes and improving patient experience.
The UK’s TPP system is helping Vietnamese hospitals integrate electronic medical records, helping doctors quickly access patient information and improve treatment quality. In addition, AI technology from Envisionit Deep AI (UK) is also being used to detect lung cancer, cardiovascular disease and lung damage caused by COVID-19 early, contributing to improving diagnostic efficiency.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, former Minister of Health, commented: "Digital transformation not only helps optimize medical costs but also improves the quality of medical examination and treatment, ensuring that everyone can access modern medical services more conveniently."
In Vietnam, many hospitals have successfully deployed electronic medical records, online medical examination registration and AI-assisted image diagnosis. Advanced models such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and Bach Mai Hospital have helped reduce 30% of waiting time for medical examination and at the same time increased the rate of accurate diagnosis to 90% thanks to the application of digital technology.
In addition, many hospitals in Vietnam are also applying smart management systems, helping to optimize operations, minimize diagnostic errors and improve the effectiveness of medical examination and treatment.
These efforts not only help improve the quality of medical examination and treatment but also create a foundation for the sustainable development of Vietnam's health system, helping to reduce hospital overload and expand medical access for the people.
With the strategic cooperation between the UK and Vietnam, the digital transformation of healthcare in Vietnam is making strong strides, helping the healthcare system become smarter, more sustainable and closer to international standards.
