The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the above viewpoint of the Government Standing Committee at the meeting to review the Project to adjust the VIII Power Plan before submitting it to the Prime Minister.

Attending the meeting were Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, leaders of several ministries, sectors and electricity, coal, minerals and oil and gas corporations.

To ensure the above goal, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to have a list of backup projects, including feasible projects of private and foreign investors, to avoid power shortages in any situation.

Planning must exploit the unique potential, outstanding opportunities, and competitive advantages of each locality, both creating conditions for disadvantaged localities to develop and ensuring energy security and balance between regions and types of electricity.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested solutions to resolve difficulties in LNG power projects; clarify the progress and feasibility of the projects. For the list of projects proposed by localities and enterprises, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is responsible for fully stating the advantages and disadvantages and proposing solutions.

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to fully absorb the opinions at the meeting, continue to review and update the full instructions of the Government Standing Committee, and complete the Planning to submit to the Prime Minister before March 20.

Adjusting the VIII Power Plan has been identified by Government leaders as a particularly urgent task to quickly find solutions to provide sufficient electricity in the country's upcoming accelerated development period.

The Project to Adjust Power Plan VIII has a number of new approaches such as: Developing external power sources to meet domestic demand, including the demand for power source capacity for direct power purchase and sale (DPPA), while considering the demand for electricity export and new energy production.

Rationally develop thermal power sources, turn nuclear power with advanced technology and ensuring safety into an important source of baseload electricity, contributing to achieving the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

Maximize the development of renewable energy sources according to the potential and strengths of each region, ensuring economic and technical factors in each planning stage, consistent with the development of science and technology; combined with investment in smart grids to ensure the reliability and quality of electricity supply services.

Reasonable development of inter-regional and inter-regional power transmission lines, contributing to minimizing the cost of electricity production for the entire system; further strengthening cooperation and exchange on electricity with neighboring countries and ASEAN countries to take advantage of each country's energy potential and optimize the operation of the interconnected system.

Encourage economic sectors to participate in investing in electricity development, including investment in the transmission grid, on the principle of fair competition and implementation of market mechanisms on electricity purchase and sale prices, ensuring harmony of interests of all parties and meeting development requirements of each region./.
