The Singapore International Foundation (SIF) Special Education Project has supported capacity building in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) education for 170 teachers from 15 schools in Ho Chi Minh City.
The 5-year project "Teaching and Learning for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder" is jointly organized by Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (HCMUE) and Rainbow Centre Singapore, aiming to enhance the capacity of teachers in building inclusive learning environments for children with ASD through skills training programs and sharing of best practices.
The project aims to equip teachers with deeper knowledge about autism and effective ways to work with children with ASD; develop a support system for educators to address the specific needs of students with ASD; and develop a framework for working with parents and caregivers to support children with autism comprehensively.
About 170 Vietnamese teachers participated in training workshops organized by Singapore International Volunteers (SIVs) from Rainbow Centre Singapore. Some of the teachers in the delegation also attended seminars and study tours in Singapore. These activities helped teachers improve their teaching practices and equipped them with knowledge to create inclusive learning environments for children with ASD. Among them, ten teachers were selected to become core trainers to share their experiences and expertise with their colleagues in the field, ensuring the sustainability of the project and its continued value to the local education community.
All teachers participating in the program reported that they gained enhanced knowledge and skills, and increased confidence in supporting students with ASD.
According to Dr. Bui Tran Quynh Ngoc, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, through this project, teachers have had the opportunity to access valuable skills and knowledge, thereby raising community awareness and creating a more effective learning environment for children with ASD.
