June recorded nearly 146,000 new accounts opened, up 40% compared to May and the highest level in 9 months.
According to data from the Vietnam Securities Depository (VSD), domestic and foreign investors registered nearly 146,000 new securities accounts in June - the highest level since September 2022 and up 40% compared to the previous month.
Investor interest in the stock market has begun to increase again in the past two months, along with the general market's growth. In the past two months, the size of newly opened securities accounts has remained above the threshold of 100,000 accounts.
Market liquidity has also increased again. After hitting rock bottom at the end of April, stock liquidity has started to return along with the index's recovery. HoSE has started to record trading sessions exceeding VND20,000 billion, of which the session on June 8 reached nearly VND23,700 billion, equivalent to more than USD1 billion.
The market's rally is not limited to a few breakout sessions. The average trading volume per session over the past four months has also increased continuously.
In March, the average trading volume per session on HoSE reached just over VND9,200 billion. This figure increased by more than 20% to nearly VND11,200 billion in April, and continued to increase to VND12,200 billion in May. In the first half of June alone, the average trading volume per session on HoSE reached VND17,400 billion.
Previously, the market decline occurred after the Investigation Police Agency initiated two cases of stock market manipulation against FLC Chairman Trinh Van Quyet and Louis Holdings Chairman Do Thanh Nhan.
The number of newly opened securities accounts peaked in May-June 2022 at more than 450,000 accounts per month, and then steadily declined. Earlier this year, the number was down to less than 30,000 new accounts per month.
