Citrus tomatoes are one of the three main crops in Ms. Giang’s clean vegetable growing model. The model has just entered its third year but has proven the economic efficiency and right direction of this Thai ethnic woman.

Ms. Giang was born here but admits that she is "clueless about agriculture". For many years, her family has been mainly in the restaurant business. Therefore, when she came to the field of clean agricultural production, she had no experience or knowledge other than "recklessness" and 100 million VND in capital.
"The 2-hectare greenhouse system in Phong village was invested by a unit to grow melons since 2018, but then for many reasons it was not continued. In 2023, the leaders of Thach Giam town mobilized households to come here to produce. Unfortunately, the infrastructure had already been invested, so I boldly tried my hand," said Ms. Giang.
In March 2023, with 100 million VND in capital, she renovated and upgraded the greenhouse, irrigation system, and improved the soil to start production. With support from the local government for watermelon seeds and guidance on processes and techniques, Ms. Giang diligently learned and sought out more knowledge from various sources of documents on caring for the melon garden.
In July 2023, Ms. Giang harvested her first watermelon crop. The watermelons were of moderate size, sweet, and sold at a good price. After deducting production and labor costs, Ms. Giang earned 170 million VND/2ha.
Winning big in the first crop helped Ms. Giang feel more confident in her new economic development direction.

"I decided to grow different varieties of vegetables and fruits in rotation, which are suitable for the local weather and climate, and also make the most of the production area. Currently, the garden has three main products: watermelon, cabbage and tomato," said Ms. Giang.
Tomatoes are a typical product of Phong village, and have been recognized as achieving 3-star OCOP (One Commune One Product) status. Tomatoes are planted in August and harvested during the Lunar New Year, lasting until April of the following year.
Mr. Vi Van Hoang, Head of the Farmers' Association of Phong village, shared: "Phong village's tomato has a sweet and sour taste, thick flesh, juicy flesh, and high nutritional value. Under good care conditions, tomato can reach a weight of 800g/fruit. The price of tomato is relatively stable, averaging 20,000-30,000 VND/kg, peaking at 50,000 VND/kg".
This tomato crop, according to estimates, Ms. Giang harvested nearly 20 tons. With the current tomato price, this woman earned nearly 400 million VND.

With local support in product promotion, consumption connection and guaranteed quality of vegetables and fruits, agricultural products from Ms. Giang's greenhouse are favored by the market and customers. Thanks to rotation, closed planting area, stable output, in 2024, Ms. Giang earned more than 800 million VND, with a profit of 500 million VND.
Ms. Luong Thi Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Giam town, shared: "With her boldness and daring, after 2 years, Ms. Vi Thi Giang's production model has proven to be the right direction for development.
On the same area, Ms. Giang's intensive greenhouse farming brings double the economic efficiency compared to households growing in the traditional way. In addition to generating high income for her family, Ms. Giang's model also creates jobs with stable income for 4 local workers.
