The Syrian Foreign Minister made the statement at a joint press conference at the country's Foreign Ministry headquarters with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, according to Xinhua.
"Syria has gone through wars against the Israeli occupation, and is ready for further wars, but Syria will decide when to start a war and how to fight," Foreign Minister Mekdad stressed.
The diplomat said one of the Syrian government's current priorities is to end Israel's control of the Golan Heights, which began in 1967 during the Six-Day War between Israel and a coalition of Arab neighbors.
Another priority is to liberate territories in eastern Syria, where US forces are stationed, and northern Syria from the presence of Turkish forces, according to Foreign Minister Mekdad.
For his part, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian stated that Iran condemns the illegal foreign presence in the above-mentioned territories of Syria.
Mr. Amir-Abdollahian affirmed that Iranian military advisers will continue to support Syria, despite some recent information indicating that Tehran intends to withdraw its military advisers after Israel repeatedly launched attacks on its positions in Syria.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also conveyed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's invitation to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to visit Tehran in the near future.
