(Dan Tri) - Israeli military aircraft carried out a series of powerful airstrikes on military targets in the port city of Tartus in Syria, home to an important Russian naval base and ship repair facility, in the early morning of December 16.

According to sources, Tel Aviv's airstrikes this time focused on several facilities in Tartus and Syria's Latakia province.
Israeli media reported that the airstrikes hit targets linked to the Russian military, including a base used by the Russian Navy and a military shipyard.
"Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes targeting a number of sites, including air defense units and surface-to-surface missile depots," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, calling it one of the heaviest airstrikes in Syria's coastal region since the outbreak of airstrikes in 2012.

The Israel Defense Forces said the Northern Command's Fire Control Center carried out airstrikes on 130 targets in Syria, including weapons depots, military facilities, launch pads and firing positions.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has called on Israel to stop targeting the Middle Eastern country, which is struggling to recover from the fall of President Assad's regime.
