Soc Trang exceeds plan on OCOP product development

Soc Trang provincial leaders require extensive dissemination to change community awareness of OCOP product development.

In early 2024, the People's Committee of Soc Trang province issued Plan No. 48/KH-UBND on the implementation of the OCOP Program in 2024 in the province. Accordingly, by the end of 2024, the province strives to have at least 230 OCOP products recognized as achieving 3 stars or more.

Developing branded products, along the value chain

Implementing the above plan, up to now, Soc Trang province has recognized 263 products that have achieved OCOP certification. Of which, there is 1 potential 5-star OCOP product, 26 products achieved 4 stars and 236 products achieved 3 stars.

To achieve the above results, in recent times, OCOP products have always received support from Soc Trang province in building brands, designing models, and packaging to contribute to improving value and quality; at the same time, promoting trade so that the province's OCOP products increasingly reach more domestic and foreign consumers.

Recently, at the conference to evaluate and classify 4-star OCOP products and 5-star potential products in 2024 of Soc Trang province, after reviewing the documents and observing the actual products participating in the evaluation and classification of OCOP stars for 11 applications to participate in the evaluation and classification of 4-star OCOP products and 5-star potential products in the first phase of 2024 of Tran De, Chau Thanh districts and Vinh Chau town, the council classified 9 products to achieve 4 OCOP stars, including: canned baby corn, lotus seeds with rock sugar, canned pineapple, canned straw mushrooms, Hai Son durian and egg pia cake, ready-to-eat bird's nest with pandan leaf flavor, ready-to-eat bird's nest with cordyceps flavor, Quoc Tin bird's nest, instant premium bird's nest; 1 product is raw bird's nest achieving 3 OCOP stars.

In particular, the ST25 fragrant rice product achieved a 5-star OCOP score. The provincial OCOP product classification and evaluation council has sent the scoring results to the Central Government.

Mr. Vuong Quoc Nam - Vice Chairman of Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of the Provincial OCOP Product Rating Council - affirmed the province's viewpoint of developing branded OCOP products, following the value chain based on strengths and advantages of local materials, culture and indigenous knowledge; especially specialties, products, craft village products and services, tourism of hamlets, communes and communities in the direction of circular economy, ensuring a sustainable ecosystem.

Improve product quality

According to Mr. Vuong Quoc Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, to continue to develop diverse OCOP products, localities in the province need to organize extensive dissemination, propaganda, training, change community awareness, arouse the potential and advantages of rural areas to increase people's income, contributing to continuing to restructure the agricultural sector.

Particularly for OCOP entities, it is necessary to improve quality, manage production processes and product development, protect trademarks, improve product designs and packaging, organize product introductions, sales, trade promotion, etc.

Digital transformation and promotion

According to Mr. Tran Hoang Dung - Head of the Department of Rural Development of Soc Trang province, the OCOP Program is an important solution in implementing the National Target Program on new rural construction, increasing people's income and promoting sustainable rural economic development.

The program contributes to developing products associated with brands, developing rural tourism services and prioritizing the development of cooperatives, small and medium enterprises, building a value chain towards a circular economy, green OCOP associated with stable raw material areas.

Mr. Tran Hoang Dung said that the development orientation of the province's OCOP Program until 2030 is to continue to complete the 2025 target according to Plan No. 170/KH-UBND dated November 30, 2022 of the Provincial People's Committee on implementing the OCOP Program of Soc Trang province for the period 2023 - 2025, focusing on developing and upgrading products, promoting products.

Continue to advise the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to submit to the Provincial People's Committee to issue a Plan to implement the OCOP Program in the province for the period of 2026 - 2030 and orientation to 2035 through solutions such as: Organizing production associated with developing typical raw material areas; standardizing processes, standards and developing OCOP products according to the value chain, in accordance with advantages in production conditions and market requirements; improving capacity and operational efficiency for OCOP entities; improving capacity for promoting, promoting trade, connecting supply - demand; building and perfecting the management and monitoring system of OCOP products; improving the capacity of the system to support program implementation and enhancing digital transformation.

In order for Soc Trang's OCOP products to reach further in the coming time, Ms. Phuong Ngoc Tuyet - Deputy Head of the Department of Rural Development of Soc Trang province - said that because many entities in the form of business households and cooperatives have limited organizational structures and experience in product development and trade promotion, the solution in the coming time is that the province will continue to increase support for some entities in packaging design to enhance the aesthetics and attractiveness of products to ensure beautiful, luxurious products with labels in accordance with regulations; support advanced certification to improve product quality such as VietGAP, Global GAP; support the issuance of growing area codes in field production and support ISO, HACCP certification in product processing.

In addition, the province continues to strengthen trade promotion for products through many forms such as introducing and promoting trade for products through fairs, putting products on e-commerce platforms, supporting display and sales points of OCOP products, typical products of the province, strengthening connections with tourism promotion activities to combine trade promotion for OCOP products, bringing the province's OCOP products to domestic and foreign consumers.

“The province will strengthen the promotion of OCOP products through television, newspapers, TikTok platform, on the VIPO e-commerce site, on the website, and the official information portal for OCOP products,” informed Ms. Phuong Ngoc Tuyet.
